P0400 EGR Tube Question

I've read all the threads concerning P0400 being a clogged EGR tube, and that it needs to be cleaned. I am getting this code intermittently, that is after clearing it comes back after 1 to 2 weeks. Could this mean that only the temperature sensor needs to be cleaned, since it is working most of the time? I've noticed some rust in my crossover pipe, could an exhaust leak be the issue also? I've reved the engine to pretty high RPM in idle and drive without seeing the light. So again it seems to me that it is probably not a blocked EGR tube, since the code should return pretty quickly, or right away after clearing.

Does anyone have any comments or thoughts?

it could be solution, can somebody tell me more about this EGI harness?

I used to get 2 codes of which I can't remember but both were egr. One, I would get after a week or so of driving but didn't affect the car. The other, I probably got 3 times in 7 months span and would cause the car to go into limp mode (can't rev past 3k rpm). I disasembeled the egr solenoid and cleaned it. I took a wire coat hanger and push it down the egr tube and twisted away. I also sprayed some carburetor cleaner in the tube. Have been egr code free since.

So you removed the sensor and from the egr tube and cleaned that? Did you spray the carb cleaner in the tube while it was on the car?

Thanks.

I pulled off the mechanical solenoid, dissasembled and cleaned it. I then tested it with 12v to confirm that it worked. I acutally jumped pins till I saw movement.

I then unbolted the egr tube fron the intake manifold and while it was still connected to the exhaust I ran a wire coat hanger down it. I also sprayed some carb cleaner while it was still connected using a tube.
