Tensioners replaced, still whining
Tensioners replaced, still whining
So I just got my car back from the dealership. I brought it in for the timing chain tensioner whine and the primary slack guide startup rattle, and after much running around getting all the service records before they would do any warranty work, I finally have it back almost three weeks later. The annoying startup rattle is gone, the car idles quietly, but the tensioner whine is still there. Or at least what I've always thought was the tensioner whine. Im posting a video below, its still uploading. I will also post what was replaced according to the printout they gave me. I just had my alternator replaced a month ago, and that apparently had nothing to do with the whine as it didnt make a difference (with the whine, the alternator did have to be replaced). Thoughts please. I only have 2000 miles left on my extended warranty. Also does it look like I need motor mounts replaced. I see my engine move when I rev it hard a few timjes in the video, is that normal movement. I havent heard any clunking....

it was done under warranty. The startup noise was a broken slack guide for the primary timing chain. There is a thread with a lot of info and pictures, definately read through this:

I just posted on it so it should be at the top for you

Also have this problem with my 04 max, the dealership said that it is doing nothing bad, just a horrible noise that pisses me off. As i don't have the warranty I don't see it worth 1500 to fix a rattling noise. Any opinions on what other dealers have said about the problem???
so i had the same issue and i brought my car to the dealership and they replaced the tensioners and timing chain. when i got it back it ran great, and after 2000 miles and 4 months it still does not whine. if you want i can put up the parts they replaced on the service sheet. my dad is the general manager of one of the dealerships in the franchise that owns the nissan dealer here and he knows the owner so we knew they treated my car right and did the right thing, lucky for me. i see on the forums how much everyone hates the nissan service dealerships...
i have that annoying *** rattaling noise when u first start it up. sounds like ****. car sounds like a truck. hate hearing how loud the engine is. i have an extended warrenty on it and i'm definitly gonna be calling them. car has 90k on it.
