with engine off, key on all the way (but not cranking) press down on gas pedal. do you hear a buzzing sound coming from the auto transmission? sounds like a relay or solenoid "chattering". when you're under the car the noise seems to come from directly inside the pan, near the front end of the tranny. goes away when you take foot off gas pedal.

I just noticed this while troubleshooting hard warm start problem.

Interestingly enough, I've noticed a similar noise coming from my AT. I had the ECU harness unplugged while I was installing my wide band O2 sensor. I also had the key in the on position in the ignition. Not sure if the ECU harness had anything to do with it, but I thought I'd mention it.

well i would imagine if it was inside the pan it would be a sensor or some sort i dont think there are any relays in the pan itself

there's a valve body with all sorts of solenoids on it. google your symptoms, and i bet you'll find something.

Interestingly enough, this same thing happens on two other cars my family has, but it has never been a problem...One is a Chevy and the other is a Honda..

no. let me clarify the situation. engine off, not cranking, key on. I'm not talking about the starter or starter solenoid.

with key on, engine off, not cranking, can someone please verify if they hear a buzzing coming from auto trans when they press on gas pedal (again, with engine off)?? then the buzzing goes away when you lift off the gas. you will have to be in a fairly quiet environment to hear it.

Ok, gave it shot. Key in ignition, turn to "on" position. Tapped peddle.

Verdict: if there is a noise, it certainly isn't loud. That said, I feel as if I heard a sort of faint electric buz when I pressed the gas pedal down. I can't say for sure because there was some residual noise way off in the back ground where I work so it was hard to tell, but like I said, if there is a sound, it isn't very loud at all.

I may try this again somewhere quiter out of curiousity. Hope that helped.
