Radar Dectector- Cobra vs Whistler

What do you think? Im tired of funding the police

WHISTLER XTR-420
http://www.overstock.com/Electronics...2/product.html

COBRA ESD 7100
http://www.amazon.com/Cobra-ESD7100-...owViewpoints=1

Seems like the Cobras allot more popular..

I can get both for around $50-70

Id rather pay for this then funding more donut eating **** faces. They don't care about the safety and speeding of others.., they care about making money at the end of the month..

Anyway.. my 2 cents.

Replies appreciated.

You'll still be funding the police if you buy either of those.

Save a bit more money and buy an Escort.

What do you mean by that? They are legal.., they sell them in autozone for christsake. AND advanced auto. A whole bunch of people sell them.

Escort? Is that another radar detector? I was thinking about just buying the Cobra for $60..

those in the "know" about detectors believe that cobra is a waste of money and suggest Betronics, Escort, or the Valentine One. Some of the latest Whistlers do come recommended, however, for those not looking to spend too much.

This is one thing you do not want to cheap out on. As has been mentioned the Valentine1 is the best there is. Period. Look up comparisons on youtube. Also, its great because it doesn't matter when you buy yours you may always upgrade if they release new hardware. They also have firmware updates. Well worth the $400! Getting one after my VQ35 swap. Had 10pts did the class and had 8pts now I am back at 10pts! 2 more points and my license gets suspended again =(

I have a escort x50 and i love it. I previously had a cobra and it was junk. extremely inaccurate. The top three are the escort valentine and the beltronics. IMO the escort and valentine are equal. the escort has more range and is a bit more accurate, and looks better, and the valentine has the directional arrows, and is quite ugly.

All the info you need on radars is here. http://www.radarbusters.com/

I've done my fair share of speeding and I've had a Cobra XRS 9400 since 2005, its no Valentine 1 or Escort 8500 but I've never been pulled over with it. The only times I've actually been pulled over is when my cig lighter plug was bad and I couldn't use my radar. Then again it was a $130 radar detector vs a cheaper base Cobra.

To the OP, A Fitz... Autozone and Advance aren't quite the places where you'd go to buy a radar detector, they just have 1-2 choices and thats it. If you just want a second pair of "eyes" looking out for cops when speeding, then you should be alright with either the Whistler or the Cobra but dont rely on them 100%, even 75% but they'll help. Make sure you buy one with at least 11 bands + Laser if you get cheap $50-$60

EDIT: Its funny, I just actually clicked on the link you posted for the cobra and I also have this radar, It was given to my by one of my police officer friends/clients and I was honestly impressed by the accuracy of this lil cheap radar. I decided to mount it and try it out and drove around to see how good it was. Surprisingly it detected cops coming from the opposite direction from at least half mile away same thing on the highway, it goes off for a while [at least 1-2 minutes before you actually see the car]

I'll be the first to say, can't really go wrong for the money but its still not something I'd buy, I'm using it for now until I have some bills paid off and I'm getting an Escort... a sexy one at that

Cobra is garbage in my book. If I were you'd, I'd try to grab either an Escort 8500 X50 or a Valentine One.

If you would like to go the cheap route, cobra is defintly better than whistler. I just bought a cobra for $75 from best buy and it saved my as* twice drving to Co in my Vr4 but its not the best obviously. If you got money than go with Valentine 1, its the best out there.

Best one I've had was a Bel. Then I got a Cobra and it barely picks up what the Bel could. Not my favorite brand....spend money on a good quality like Escort/Bel

As has been said, go Bel, Escort, or V1. Better range, quality, and reliability. I'd never waste a dollar on a Cobra or Whistler. Check the comparisons on this site:

+1 for the Escort if you don't live in the south. The solder on my Escort 8500 x50 is cheap and the Alabama heat has baked the inside of my unit (very similar to the early Xbox 360 red ring o death problem). Still works, but goes off at random now.

+2 for the V1. I'm shopping for one right now.

Thoughts on Radar detectors:

1.) The quality of a radar detector is not simply in what it detects, but more what it DOESN'T detect. You can get a $20 radar detector that has excellent range and fantastic sensativity. However, it will not only alert you to police, but to every drug store, bank, electronic sign, stop light, security camera, and motion-activated door there is. In other words, it'll never be off and serve very little purpose other than to keep you running slow the whole time.

2.) Both the Escort Passport 8500 x-50 and the Valentine V1 or the favorites of those of us that use them. They both have great range and sensativity measure while limiting the false alarms to a bareable level. They also last a very long time.

3.) A radar detector is NOT a cop detector. It is a tool to HELP you avoid some speed traps. It is NOT a free pass to speed. The police have numerous methods of speed detection, not just radar, and having a radar detector will only INCREASE your chance of getting a ticket if you treat it like a get-out-of-speeding-free card.

Best of luck.

I have a passport radar detector. It has recharagable batteries which makes it nice, so you don't have that stupid cord hanging around. It does a decent job. I still get got speeding atleast two times a year.
