Found an awesome spot to mount a gps antenna

Installed a pioneer avid-x920bt hu with built-in gps. After some thinking, found a great spot to mount the antenna. Pulled out the clock(I have a 5th gen), and the little "puck" fit PERFECTLY inside the enclosure
. Easy to fish wires to the hu, has a great view of the sky, and is completely hidden. Pics to come

Do you still have a clock besides the h/u's clock?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

as you can see, it is tucked right above the clock module (this is the clock enclosure turned upside down), so yes, you retain the stock clock. When ut back together, it looks completely stock

most people just stick them right on top of the nav unit. provided there is NO metal above the antenna, it will work anywhere..

That was what I had tried first, unfortunately, the 5th gen has a lot o metal in that area, and I got NO signal. I had it sit on my dash, and it saw 11 satellites, so I put it in the clock and compared, and sure enough I also had 11 satellites

Nice idea. I've installed it on a ton of 5th gens on top of the HU itself, without issue.

Huh!

Didn't realize they could receive signal through surfaces, excluding metal I guess.

I'll have to try this on future installs!

yep. Don't try this with sirius or xm antennas however... they MUST be outside or it will cut in and out frequently

Yup, did several dozen right on top of the radio with full signal. Never an issue. Then again I stay away from Pioneers.

Hogwash ! ALL of my cars and the majority of my clients are all inside the dash. No issues.

Well, with exception to some Porsches and Benzs.
