Ok, so I'm on a budget here. I have my VAFC, so now I need a wideband to datalog with. So here are the 2 budget-friendly options I'm trying to decide between:

1. Zeitronix ZT-2. With this, it's around $280 shipped. It has full datalogging capabilities, but this version doesn't come with a display. That is an extra $130 or so.

2. Innovate LC-1 (around $165) + Innovate SSI-4 (around $122). I believe this combination will let me datalog. Is that correct? If I go this route, I'd have a display as well.

Let me know what you think. Will the LC-1 + SSI-4 let me datalog? Is this a wiser choice than the ZT-2? It works out to about the same price (give or take $8 or so). Thanks for any help. Let fly your opinions and recommendations

 

How about an Innovate LM-1?

 

It looks like a portable tape player from the 80's. Not really an attractive display... But is it good? Can you datalog with it as is, or do you need extra hardware?

 

I've had my zt-2 in for about 2 weeks, so far I have no complaints.. Their software is pretty easy to figure out..

Also check eBay for zt-2 cuz when I was looking for it I think there were some items that accepeted "best offer"

 

Oh? Like how much? . And good to hear that you like your ZT-2. I'll probably go that route.

That's 355 + 15 for shipping.. It comes with the zt-2 wideband and zt-1 gauge.. It says best offer so I would say offer 300 (I doubt they'll accept it but they'll counter offer or refuse and you can offer again)

 

That's just the datalogging box. Mine will be hidden in the glove compartment when it's installed.

There's a remote wire that runs off of it to run an external AFR gauge if you'd like to.

But yes, the LM-1 is a very good wideband. It can datalog, but I'm not sure if you need any extra software for it. The one to ask would be MoncefA33...

I'm planning on wiring mine up to my VAFC-II.

lol. Just makin sure you didnt have some limited edition vafc that has a super secret plug for widebands that allows you to datalog right on the vafc...

I think I might just go with LC-1 (comes with a gauge) and the SSI-4 (allows 4 channels of input for datalogging). All for the same price as the zt-2 without a gauge!
What do you guys think?

 

If you plan on using the SSI-4 you will need to buy an RPM converter.

Don't waste your time with the LC-1 if you're using a VAFC, too much extra stuff to buy, IMO.

Thanks Cef, I respect your opinion with regard to this stuff. I didn't know that an RPM converter was necessary with the LC-1 and SSI-4. I thought the SSI-4 was essentially an RPM converter plus more... I suppose no...

Looks like the Zeitronix is the best, most inexpensive, simplest way to go.

 

From my understanding, the SSI-4 is just a multi-channel datalogger. Which means it's a box that reads different inputs that you have the option to plug into.

According to Innovate's website, Channel 1 is an RPM input, however, includes only the following...

So you still need the RPM converter to pick up a tach signal and then send it to the SSI logger.
