How to tap reverse light switch?

Hi everyone,

I'm installing a reverse sensor (parking assist) kind of thing in my mom's 2003. There's a trunk piece that handles all the wiring to/from the bumper and it taps into the reverse light in the trunk - I think that's all fine. Then there is a cabin piece (display) which communicates wirelessly with the piece in the trunk. This display sits on the dash and needs to get power when the reverse lights are active.

I'd appreciate any suggestions people have. I read this old thread: http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ml#post1627822 -- however, I'd love any recommendations on a better way to do this, or adapt it to my purpose. If you can give any pointers as to how to find the right wires (I have the FSM), that would be helpful as well.

Thanks!
- Jon

I would just use a clip-splice on the backup lights, that should do it.

What's the best place to tap into them as far as the dash area is concerned?

Those things are designed to be tapped into the reverse tail light wire. So once car is in reverse, power is active it will enable the sensors.

The switch for the backup lights is in the console on the shift lever. The wire for the backup lights is green with a white stripe. I don't know if the wire at the switch goes back under the dash before going to the trunk or if it goes direct to the trunk.

How much power does this unit take? The backup lights are on a 10 amp fuse (#30).
