Sentra 6spd transmission

Any 5.5's out there that did this, far as I know sparksmax was going to do this but I haven't heard much from him.... anyways as far as my knowledge serves is that they are the exact same transmission except the bellhousing... my question is how many ppl using a spec V transmission and how hard is it to change bellhousing???

It's not really a direct answer to your questions, but you should use check out some of the threads in the 4th gen forum. They have a few involving different gear ratios and swap information for various styles of the 6MT. Off the top of my head, a few members I think could help you : Nealoc187, pmohr, and SR20DEN. Worth a shot to throw them a PM.

Last time I asked sparks03max about this, he mentioned that it would take special tooling to swap the bellhousing and that you should pay a transmission shop to do it.

There are many advantages to using a spec v transmission though. They are cheaper, they all have HLSD, and they have shorter gearing. The 05-06 ones are the best. They have better synchros...

sounds like a b16 trans meats a LS/B20 engine...good stuff...that'd give you better 1/4 mile times as well, dont know about gas mileage though

lmao!... i really want the sentra transmission but if its too much ill just get the 5.5 trans... SE-r spec-v transmissions are dumb cheap though

Humm this is interesting. I just swapped in a 05 maxima 6spd in my 4th gen. Knowing that all spec V have hlsd is good to know incase I wanna swap mine out.

yea you gotta also swap out bellhousing which i hear from sparksmax saying you would really want a transmission shop doing that...

Weird. I know a guy with an ~'08 Sentra (non-SpecV) with a 6-speed and his has a rather large, common problem with it: It whirs. A loud, obnoxious, let's-crank-the-stereo-to-drown-it-out whir. There are videos of it all over YouTube and Nissan just keeps telling him they "can't hear it" on their test drives. Swapping to MT-90 didn't do diddly squat and it looked like the previous owner had already switched to MT-90, anyway.

I would never want to have to just "deal" with a transmission that drones at speed. Engines can be tamed and tuned, but what the heck can you do with a transmission? Buy lots of sound deadening matte and drape your car in it? No, thanks.

Maybe he has the one rotten apple?... can't judge all semtra trans off that... and we were kinda refering to the Spec-V transmission.... honestly I don't know how long before they changed body styles but I was talking about the 03 type sentra body style (however long they kept that body style).... and LSD (I know my title doesn't say but it would only make sense as to why I was talking about that transmission vs a 5.5)

I have posted this long time ago, but nobody picked up on it. Since I have a spare 6spd laying around in the garage, I might try that next summer.

Let someone experienced in transmission work swap out the bellhousing if you really wanna do this. My friend just had this done for his soon to be VQ powered sentra. He swapped the maxima front half of the tranny onto the sentra rear half.

The 2007+ Sentra's and Altima's have a different 6 speed transmission.

They have a RS6F52H.

You need a RS6F51H (H means HLSD), so who cares about those ^ trannies anyway

If you do get a Maxima transmission, get the 2005-2006. Same gearing, and best synchros. Only thing is, they are more money and you are not guaranteed an HLSD.

If you get a 6th gen tranny, and you have the HLSD out of an 02 tranny, how hard is it to swap the HLSD over? Do the gears have to be removed?

I did this already, not a Spec V tranny but the same, none the less.

Bought a 6th gen tranny that didn't have HLSD but had the FD I wanted. My tranny blew 1st and 2nd gear. Took mine apart, and also unbolted the HLSD from the final drive. Took apart the 6th gen tranny and installed the HLSD onto that FD gear. Done.

The only thing that was a pain in the **** was lining up the shafts cause it's all got to fall into place at the same time, and you have to keep up with the order of all the springs and *****, and then the other biggest PIA was the syncros, as they all need to be in the slot at the same time and they're spring loaded while you slip the collar over them. Easy to lose, and a buncha pieces to a big puzzle. It's definitely doable, but then again you also have to worry about shimming the casing as well so you don't get tranny whine.

You know what that's from? That's because of bell housing shock. Normally from cars that are launched all the time pretty hard, and it shocks the tranny, which makes the input shafts not line up anymore like it's suppose to. There's no proof that it does any harm to the tranny, except for the annoying whine. If you can shim the main shaft back in line (crack open the housing), that would fix the whine. Luckily, when I did the above procedure, I measured to almost the exact specs between the input shaft and the bell housing and ordered the exact shims I needed from Nissan. Just in case you were wondering where that whine was coming from.

I think Darren came down here to Charlotte to a shop I know. They charge a couple hundred to do the swap from when I checked with them before I decided to do it on my own.

Yep, i paid $200 for them to swap the housings over, that was with a bran new housing i had to used. so if they have to disassemble 2 trannys price might go up.


Id def find a shop that can do it if u where considering a sentra trans. as not just any trans shop can do it.
