Stainless Steel Clutch line one piece failed!
Stainless Steel Clutch line one piece failed!
I am just venting. I thought these things were suppose to be good? I had this one for several years now and loved it. Never had to add a drop of fluid or anything. Than the other day it was about 10 out that morning I start the car up and let it sit than I go to leave press the clutch in and start to put it in reverse and the cars starts moving before I even let up on clutch so than I pull it out of reverse and try first and exact same thing. So I was already running late for my final for school so I jump into the truck and leave. Come home to take a look that afternoon and the slave cylinder is empty almost. It is below the minimum line and the clutch pedal is stuck to the floor. I pull up the clutch pedal and top off the slave cylinder and just start pumping the pedal and it sticks at about 1/4 way coming back up but eventually pops free. So I pump it more and than go check the reservoir and it is almost empty again, so I start looking around and the line is leaking at the nut from what I can tell where it screws into the slave cylinder.
I am not even sure who I bought this from but it was someone who was making them. I want to say like A33VQ or something. I cannot remember his user name.
Has anyone else ever had any problems with these things failing? I am quite disappointed. So who sells these anymore? Can we still even get them. It has been like 3 years since I have bought one.

Yea it is possible. But I am not going back to stock. I have removed and cut all the old line and metal to run a one piece from the slave to master. It really frees up alot of space.
The end of the nut where it is on the line failed. I guess there is some type of rubber or something that allows the nut to twist freely from the line and it is leaking from behind the nut. I have already tried tightening up the nut and even took the line off and put it back on.
LOL, there's a whole thread in the stickies about stainless steel lines needing to be replaced. They don't last forever. 3 years, that's pretty good, I'm not surprised. That's longer than the one I bought from the dealership, that lasted 1 month. Anyways, if I remember correctly, my SS clutch line was crimped on I think. Not the best way to do it, but luckly there's not a bunch of pressure through the hose.
Have you inspected the slave cylinder too? I've seen many 4th gens with broken boots, excellent way for dirt to get on the piston, destroy the seal, and allow leakage. Luckily, rebuild kits are cheap and easy.

The clutch lines use the same fittings are brake lines which are tested to 2500psi. there's no reason why a crimped connection is worse than any other type of connection. (the industrial hydraulic hoses I use that run to 10,000psi are crimped fittings as well- only larger.)
Most of the time one of these hoses fails is because of vibration. take a look at how the hose is held onto the transmission and make sure the fitting isn't being stressed at an angle AND has a bunch of loose hose hanging off it causing more stress.
As for longevity, the lines on my car are about 9 years old with over 100k miles and still going strong.

well to bring up a not too old thread...we are having the same problem with a leaking ss clutch hose, however it is leaking up at the clutch master. Same symptoms as the O.P. my wife had one day last week while driving. I replaced the clutch master thinking that was the problem since our car had the SS line installed when we bought it. So is this the only clutch line available thats not OEM? Has anyone bent up their own line? Otherwise it looks like we will be ordering a SS Clutch line very soon..lol
