so i wrecked my last max which was a 99 gxe auto... so i had a buddy of mine buy the motor.. he put it in a 96 max.. now i kno the engines are similar.. but what are the differences?? i think some vaccume lines arent connected correctly or mismatched.. i was driving my car and at a red light all of a sudden.. the car died and i didnt kno cuz i had the music loud.. but it happened to me 2 more times.. when i was doin a 90 degree right turn and when i pulled into my driveway on reverse.. it idled down and smelt like gas fumes or exhaust fumes or somethin.. im wonderin if yall can help me out with this one.. sorry im not a mechanic. but i am gettin real interested... thank u for this site and for yall help..

Its going to be impossible the help you out with little to no info.

99's have 2 different emissions setups and are much different than the older engines. When you swap motors you need to reuse ALL of your original emissions equipment. Unless you know the vacuum gallery (metal spaghetti under the TB) like the back of your hand you're going to scew it up.

Without more info it's tough to answer, but likely vacuum issues are the cause. It's really difficult to get them all correct with different years of engine.

Did your friend take extra care to label all connection properly before install? You might even have a cracked line ore simply swapped 2 lines on accident. Double check all the work before you do anything else.
