STEREO WIRING ISSUE

95SE -> 97SE both have stock bose

Used to have pioneer in dash unit in the 95 with no probs but now im trying put it in my 97.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POC...s/AVH-P4000DVD

Ok So i got the bose out and the new pioneer in dash dvd in. i had it installed on my 95 just fine so i figured it shouldve been just plug n play. except im having speaker issues. wiring issues. first off red/white dont seem to matter which either is plugged into on the unit neither do the labels on the wiring themselves in terms of corresponding to which speaker. At the moment I have it set up to play just out of the two fronts. The rears are connected but i only get a sound when I turn the subwoofer option on in the menu of the head unit. so all i get is bass out of the rear speakers. Oddly enough On the 95, i had to turn this option off in order to get full sound from the rears and if i do that in this case i get absolutely nothing coming from the rears. So i honestly cant figure out what the issue is if its the head unit jacks or the wiring itself. No matter what ive tried i cant get full sound and i switched the inputs around for over 2 hours. so yeah... im frustrated. ideas? i dunno. looks like after all that ill have to get someone who knows what they are doing to come take a look at the situation. cant things just go as planned... ****!

im using all stock bose speakers

ideas? ah.. **** pullin my hair out.

Bose speakers are amplified and are like 3W @ 1 OHM. They don't work with aftet market HU.

note i do have the wiring kit because it was wired into the 95. basically wires spliced into rca jacks etc.

maybe ill have to get a new one. idk. it does seem like the head unit input jacks for the Rear's might not be working properly. could they have like.. idk.. shorted and now dont hold a connection properly?

you may have a setting in the HU to turn down the amp gain.
if not then you would need a separate module that you wire between the hu and speakers. bose is 2 ohms and the after market hu is prolly 4 ohms. youre basically blowing your speakers. too much power

but--- red and white are not speaker wires-
green, blue, grey, and purple- are speakers..
so you are using the RCA wires for your rears? why? hah-

-- edit: you cant splice rcas...

it looks that way

the green, blue, grey, and purple speaker wires have been spliced into (there is electrical tape over it) red/white rca's. because thats how they are in the back of the hu.
theres a pic of the back of the hu here, the 2nd pic:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POC...s/AVH-P4000DVD

if i plug any of the front/rear speaker wires into the back of the hu's FL/FR i get either both fronts or one left front one left rear whatever... so at the moment i left it as two fronts. but when i plug any of the rcas into the RL RR inputs on the HU i get nothing but Bass when the subwoofer option is on from the Rear speakers. Its weird. Simple because as stated in the OP on the 95 i didnt have this problem i actually had to turn the subwoofer option to off in the HU menu to get full normal sound and if it was on i would get bass like i am now. except if i turn it off in this car in the menu option it just gives me nothing at all from the rears.

unless im missing something here.... everything seems to be connected the way it should. this is a pic of the harness so you know what im saying about the rca's

http://www.metraonline.com/part/70-7551

i dont have the exact same brand of harness as that but same difference id say

on whoever said bose cant work with aftermarket speakers i ran my kenwood on my bose speakers just fine untill i got my aftermarket speakers in a 97 gle...

and your problem could lie in the wiring harness itself it is possible there is a problem with that harness or it changed slightly between 95-97 something to look into ill also find out what else i did to make mine work just gotta pull dash again when i have next day off i was having some troubles at first.

check if there is a low pass filter?

it should be connected into the square harness. the RCAs are pre amp - so should only be used if you are adding in an external amp.
not for speakers.

ugh

the only remaining items to be connected are the cig lighter and auto climate control harnesses

Funny you say this because I've wired 2 different after market head units into 2 different Maxima's both with Bose pre amplified speakers systems as well as 2 different after market head units into 1 Infiniti i30 with a Bose speaker system.

You just have to know what you are doing....

OP, I've always spliced in RCA jacks as you've stated. Sometimes due to the small wires in the RCA jacks they can break lose from heat in the car. I've found soldering them is a good solution. Check to make sure everything seems to have a good connection. Otherwise check the harness. Maybe buy another harness and swap it out to see if that solves it.

Another suggestion is to check the rear/front balance on the head unit. I know it seems like a silly thing to check but sometimes I've surprised myself by checking it and realizing it was not balanced to the rear for volume.

i fiddled with all the balance and fade too
i guess ill just maybe have to buy a new harness but ill take these apart and inspect.

i just wonder why i get no response from the HU in the RR RL input jacks other than bass with the subwoofer option turned on and then nothign at all when off. its weird. makes me worry that its the HU all a sudden.

could the batt being dead and the unit turning off and on a few times cause the inputs to **** up? but then why would they only work at half of the capacity (bass only) ... lol.. damn

set the sub pre out to full pass. if you turn the sub pre out off, you will get NO sound. if it is on sub, you will only get low pass frequencies coming thru your speakers. its somewhere in your radios manual, which many can be found on the mfgr's website for pdf download if you dont have it. then you will get full range sound out of the rears.

I don't think that you should be using the RCA jacks either. You should be connecting the car's speakers to the hu's square connector by the antenna jack. You would need this wiring adaptor - http://www.metraonline.com/part/71-7550 and splice it to the hu wiring adaptor.

In case you don't have the owners manual for the hu, here is a link to it:

Not sure how my uncle wired my harness but, he wired a Pioneer DVD player into my car. (Bose all around). And it worked perfectly. Speakers didn't crack or anything. I even had JL W6's installed with stock speakers and stock amps.

Is there a way of hooking up two subs and and amp to stock HU with just the basic wires that I already have?
