Is the bolt spinning? Cross threaded? When you say it's loose, is there still a gap between the bottom the bolt head and the cross member?

Retap the hole. Find the bolt size and thread pitch then goto the hardware store and retap the hole, also inspect bolt to see if it needs replacing too. That should teach you for just hammer away with an impact.

I couldnt find a tap with the thread size of out crossmeber bolt , searched every harware store in my area.

Eneded up buying a few bolts from lowes that were a match and was able to chase them throught . Took a few tries , a air gun and a few bolts ..

I had the same thing happen to me. After retapping and buying a new bolt, it was good as new.

The last sentence above doesn't make sense, but FWIW I wasn't using an impact wrench.
