DEK Swap

Hello!

I have a 98 VQ30DE 5spd and the motor locked up on me SMH. But now I want to do a swap for a DEK. I have spent plenty of times in the search bar. Some questions have been answered and some threads were just confusing. I no I would need to splice dek injectors. Do I need to splice the coil packs too? Plus, how would the motor go if I were to delete the EGR valve all together?

Since we talking about it what is all needed to complete this swap? No Codes

I thought about the 3.5 but I work 5days out of the week and parents being my transportation SUCKS (Im 18 BTW). I need my car and money is tight. Im trying to save for school.

Thanks!

If money is tight why bother swapping to a dek? If you are going to do all the work yourself (let's face it, you're 18...you're going to mess something up) maybe it's worth trying. It would be much easier, faster, and cheaper to just get another de engine. It might be more reliable too. (until you got the kinks out of the dek swap)

Are you going to get some buddy to do it? Otherwise why gather info if a shop is going to do the swap? Any decent mechanic can do a dek swap. (I said decent)

You could just get a low mileage dek, use the block/head/whatever else is directly compatible, and then sell off the 00VI to help offset the cost.

DE-K Swap (entire engine swap) will need:
1) EGR block off plate (if your going that route) if not a new 5th gen EGR Tube
2) Throttle cable plate made (cause the 5th Gen has longer cables)
3) Fuel injector plugs spliced in
4) IACV adaptor plate unless you want to try your luck with the 5th gen one
5) Of course all new gaskets(throttle body, egr, valve covers, intake manifolds, etc, etc)
6) injectors coilpacks from a 5th gen
7) also an rpm switch to activate the VI
And as far as the coilpacks go no you do not need to splice them in.

If I missed anything just add it

hope this helps

Plenty of good info in the all motor section. The cliff's version is that a dek swap is reliable if done properly. If you are really on a budget try to do a straight de exchange. Less work is less money when it's all said and done.

You have a point. I wanted to do a 00VI on my motor until this tragic happened. So why not just do the dek swap. Just what I was thinking. Yes I'm saving now but I can also save by doing the dek now instead of the 00VI later.

check tha all motor section or SEARCH. There is a how-to and written instructions to do the 00IV swap.

The cheapest and easiest way to get back on the road is to buy another low mileage DE motor and swap it in.

Dont get me wrong, the 00VI mod is cool but there are so many other performance mods that u can do before getting to that point.

And if u cant do the work yourself, then get a mech to swap in the DE and be done with it. No mech will guarantee the DEK swap for u

buying another DE will be the silliest thing you could ever do. First, what is a low mileage DE? Second, even if you just want to use the block you can sell the 00vi stuff and come out cheaper than just buying a DE.

A DE for 675?? Is that what they go for in your area? DEKs go for $450 at the local salvage yards here, so maybe look into that price a little more. A DEK is as close to a direct swap that you can ever have aside from minor wiring, and using your own sensors. seriously.

Really?!?!?! I saw a DE for $450 but the milage was 136K. Prices out here, are too much for a good motor
Where are you located?

Before this goes any further go TALK to a mechanic and get a quote on both jobs so you can compare. Everyone telling you to just do the swap is speaking from a diy point of view...which you are not doing. The cost difference between engines is negligible at best. Find out what the rest of the job will cost and THEN decide what to do.

wow. im located in north carolina. i figured with the way those dcmax boys do swaps that they were a lot cheaper there. ive purchased 3 deks here, for 3 different swaps, and they were all the same exact price- $450, all with around 80k miles. 3.5s on the other hand are around $675 from what ive seen.

That's crazy I wish I can find a dek for $450 with 80k or less.
