problem with Progress rear sway bar width

I am trying to install a progress rsb that I bought from a 5th gen maxima owner. when I came to bolt up the last side, I found it was an inch short. So I had the two rear bushings bolted using the u bolts to the axle, and one side bolted to the rear trail arm, and the other side was an inch short.

I took it off and took some measurements: RSB width from end to end-> 43 inches. Distance between rear trail arms -> 44 inches.

Are the rsb's not compatible from teh 5th gen to the I35? In my case it is a 2002 I35.

Hey. I'm at work right now. I've got internet access, but can't use my phone. I'll give you a shout as soon as I can. But as far as I know, the RSB will fit both the I35 and the Maxima. The specs on the rear trailing arms are the same. Let me look for a minute and see if I can find the install how-to for you.

Give that a shot. If it doesn't help, let me know, and I'll give you a call and see how I can help.

That was the directions I used when I installed my Addco yesterday. I kinda ran into the same problems, but then I realized I needed to just loosely put everything on and then tighten it down.

Thanks Brett. That is the guide I used, I had everything on there pretty loose. The measurements are what worry me, there is no way to make up a full inch. My plan is to get a machine shop to fashion 4 quarter-inch spacers the same shape as the side bracket base plates, and use two on each side, along with longer bolts.

So I got the rear sway bar on. I used two jack stands to hold it up in position and locate it exactly in between both rear trail arms and JNCoRacer came over, took a look and said that it should bolt up fine as his had about the same space on each side. And sure enough... I must have just had it too tight on one side the first time I tried.

Very noticeable improvement! My suspension is otherwise pretty much stock, so I could notice the big reduction in body roll right away. Now, if you already have stiffer springs and shocks, it probably won't be as huge of an improvement as it was for me.
