Which nub do I sand off for clearance light mod?

I want to do the little trick I have read about you guys doing to keep the clearance lights bright all the time (when the headlights are on) and not just when you signal. Do I sand the lower or upper nub? And then just put the lightbulb in 180^, right? Thanks guys.

The mod you are talking about is for 97-99 clearance lights
you use a 1156 bulb instead of the 1157 bulb. File 1 of the
nub off and put it in and it will be brighter. Good luck.

I believe it is the upper one... that way you can turn the bulb the other way, with the lower nub going into the socket of the upper one...
again, i have done this and it works great, but i really am not 100% positive, about 90% sure its the upper one.

I didn't have to sand off a nub. I just re-soldered the wire to the other contact. Then put the bulb and the assembaly back together and it worked great. Hope that this helps.

All I did was to take the assebaly apart, move the wire from the contact that it is currently on to the other one, and put it back together. Then stuck the stock bulb back in and turned it on. But mine is a 97, so I'm not sure if you can do the same thing. Sorry bout that.

Right, why won't this work for a '95/'96 benny?

NYC, the upper one makes sense, thanks. Can anyone else confirm that real quick before I go and do it? (I have a '96)

Thanks guys.

Thanks guys.

Confirming...my '95 has 1156 bulbs with a shaved nub in backwards...works beautifully. Just so you know. Take an 1156, the bulb with the one bump on the bottom, look at the nubs on the side, shave off the one closest to the glass, put it in backwards of how it would go regularly. Voila!

Peace

Thanks guitar., I really appreciate that. When you say 1156, you mean the stock bulb size it comes with, correct? And I wasn't following you with the one closest to the glass. Do you shave the upper or lower nub? Thanks again.

damit, this is harder than i thought. Not so much the auctual shaving of the nub but getting the bulb out!! I got the passenger side to work fine with the stock bulb, i just sanded away the uper nub with reg sand paper. Now i cant even get to the divers side off, wtf! Is there any easy way to get to the bulb, my fingers do not fit in those tiny places and i cant get enough leverage to turn the socket and get the bulb out........there has to be an easier way???

Mad, so are you saying it is definately the upper nub that needs to be sanded?

Why don't you just remove the whole clearance light? Just one phillips screw, a good wiggle and a tough ball-in-socket and you're there.

1156...stock bulb size, although mine are hyperwhites, and it's the upper nub, the higher up nub, the nub closest to the glass, the nub furthest from the connection, then upper nub.

I'm sorry, I understand what you mean by closest to the glass now. I was looking at my bulbs and I had 1156 stock, not 1157. What's the difference? Hey, since you brought it up, can you tell me how you like the hyperwhites, where to get them, the cost and just how white they are. If I have Piaas headlight bulbs, will the clearance lights match them close? Thanks.

P.s. I didn't sand off the nub at all. I simply bent the wall of the light socket ever so slightly and fit it in. No permanent damage.

Well, I have headlights and fogs from the same company...some guy sold them to me on ebay, I don't know who makes them because there was no English writing on the packaging, it was all Japanese. I don't remember where I got the clearance bulbs. They don't match perfectly, but they don't look bad. I like 'em. I left stock clear bulbs in the sidemarker and turn signal so that I can still have some resemblance to amber for a blinker. Good idea with the socket thing!

Peace
