Unorthodox Ultra Lightened Aluminum Flywheels (5 lbs.)

Anybody knows if this is a good flywheel cause they say that it is only 5 lbs aluminum and that would make it the lightest flywheel that I ever heard of but it is also expensive I think like $ 650 or something like that so what do you guys think is it worth it and what would the advantages and disadvantages be ?

Way too light. Drivability problems probably will occur. Plus rpms will probably drop like a rock when you let off the gas. Take offs with such a light flywheel will probably be a big pain.

If you get one, don't say I didn't warn you

At waht point would you say one was not "too light". As in how many pounds do you think would make it still managable for a daily driver?

Well you don't really have too much choice. It seems like it goes from 10lbs to this 5lb unit. 10lbs would be about the lightest I would go.

Do you know if a lightened flywheel makes daily driving more uncomfortable or tougher to drive the car. Just curious because I have been intrested before in getting a lighter one but want to know the ramifications first.

Thanks

I think the flywheel is more than 5 pounds, I think we have 2 peice flywheels, and I think maybe 1 peice might weight 5 pounds but both peices are together then its probably more like 12 pounds. I think alot.

This is conceptually correct. The 5lb is for the new piece of the two piece flywheel. You reuse the other disc with the ring gear. Stillen's weighs about 7.9lb if I remember correctly.

I'm going to go ahead with the fidanza

Vyrus showed a pretty good deal today at ptuning.com. They are offering the fidanza flywheel for $370.45 shipped with "pnismo" for the coupon code. I think the unit weighs in around 6-9 punds plus the weight of the outer and the bolts on the flywheel should bring the grand total to 12 pounds...just over half of the stock weight.

a lightened flywheel is like lighter wheels
the lighter it is the faster you can rev your engine = faster acceleration

if you have problems with the car's rpms dropping too low just up your throttle wire

adn yes your rpms will drop faster too

Gotta chime in on this one. The 2ndary ring gear PLUS the bolts that hold it to the flywheel is an entire ONE pound an SIX ounces. Its insignificant.
