1989 Maxima Suspension
1989 Maxima Suspension
I can not for the life of me find someone that I can get an after market suspension from...does anyone know where and or how....I am not going to pay out the ying yang for a stock strut sonar system...i would much rather have a coil over or something that I can adjust myself.
How much you looking to spend? Try searching eBay coilovers? Unless you're on a tight budget, you just gotta look harder...but I guess we really don't know what you want. If you're looking for just stock strut replacements without going too crazy, check out your auto part stores. As far as coilovers, I'm sure someone else will chime in with tips and lead you in a pretty good direction.
KSport Coilovers maybe?

Your the **** dude. I dont know how i missed that but thats way cheaper and such a better product. My names is Eric. I appreciate everything. Once I have gotten these things on ( I will take and post pics) I will get some rims and a paint job. Then to jim wolf technologies and to add some power adders and a turbo kit.
Hate to burst y'alls bubble but those coilovers don't actually exist for 3rd gens. Never have, never will.
Go ahead and try to order them.
OP -
you really have very limited options. You cannot buy performance struts any longer. Tokico and Koni was all we ever had but they're long discontinued and practically extinct. This leaves you basically with KYB, which are really just stock-replacement struts but really the only option you've got.
We used to have quite a few options for lowering springs - Suspension Techniques, B&G, Eibach, Intrax (my blue VE in my sig is on Intrax), Sprint, and a few more. Most of those are long discontinued as well. About 6-7 years ago, a few cheaper "brands" started sprouting up as far as producing springs for 3rd gens but even those seem long gone nowadays. Those included DropZone, Aerospeed, and KSport. Of these, I believe you can only get KSport nowadays (http://www.amazon.com/Ksport-Lowerin.../dp/B001UPJ4A6).
As far as the "real" brand springs, you can still find Eibach in stock at a lot of places. They're about $220-250 and have always been considered the best mix between performance/driveability.
Go ahead and try to order them.

If anything, those coilovers are for the A31 Cefiro, which, contrary to what these catalog makers seem to think is NOT the same as the J30 3rd gen Maxima.
Unfortunately they never made coilovers for our gen due to the physics. My friend gave me some ebay coilover sleeves but I never tried to install because I have sonar struts w/B&G lowering springs. If you want to keep your sonar struts then you can't get an aggressive set of lowering springs. That's why i got B&G's, they only lower ride height about an inch. Anything lower will eat up your sonars or any stock ride height strut for that matter. The good thing about the sonar strut is it's adjustability. My system is still fully functional and I usually just ride in comfort mode but in sport mode you can really feel the difference around turns(on/off ramps). For it's time period it was a great ride and you get all the other goodies(digi dash cluster, HUD, climate control).
Ok so let me see if I have this right, I do have the sonar system, I dont believe that it still works which is why I was going to go away from it. I was hoping to get something not to stiff but something to drop the ride height by like 2 inches in the rear and 3 in the front. Something to just make it look right you know. But if I have to keep the sonar system then yes I want a lowering spring but still I dont want to have to go to the dealer to get these parts. The problem that I am having at least with the rear is that I cant get the cartridge out of the spindle. Thats why i was going to just buy a whole set.
I think that the rear cartridge is stuck or rusted in or seized or something. What I was also thinking is doing a rear conversion, from a newer max with disc and something that I can bolt a coil over into. I am sure that I can find something for the front but like James said, no one makes anything for the 3rd gen.
