So I've been noticing that releasing the accelerator doesnt slow the vehicle down like it use to. Pulling up on the accel pedal with my toe causes the expected deceleration. Using the Torque program and bluetooth elmscan, I can see my accelerator pedal %. Pedal fully released should be 0%. Sometimes it does read 0 and most of the time it reads 0.4 to 2.7%. Thats enough to rev the engine at about 1500rpm in neutral or park and enough to keep engine pulling in drive when releasing pedal.

Pulled the accel pedal out of car. Part # 18002-ZX00A. Mynissanparts.com had a "part number is superceded by 18002-HB..." when I searched by part #. Ordered for $36 including shipping.

Anyone know about this new part #?

This lists as "Pedal travel sensor, altima, auto trans ". From factorynissanparts.com, this part # looks to fit ALL Altima (2.5 and 3.5 models) and Maxima models.

If find it kind of strange that it's that cheap.

What I find strange is that, after four years of the 7th gen Maxima, this is the first word I have seen here regarding a sticky accelerator pedal in our Maximas.

It isn't as if this is a smudge on the upholstery; an accelerator pedal that does not fully release could cause a safety problem if it happened when an inexperienced driver was not expecting any such thing.

Anyone else here with a sticky accelerator pedal, tell us about it. I think this is the first time this problem has been mentioned here.

 

My 2007 Altima 3.5SE had a sticky throttle as well. However, it was a less expensive vehicle and I was more fearless. I actually took it apart and cleaned the inside of it and lubricated it with some silicone spray. It was so bad it would stick at like 3000rpm in neutral (was a 6-spd). So, yeah...will let you know when I get the part what differences I see. I may even crack the old one apart and look at it as well.

So, I installed the new accelerator pedal this morning. I can't tell any difference at all, except it's a little smoother and the car decelerates immediately upon letting off throttle.

The accelerator pedal now shows 0% when released and 92.5% at WOT (old pedal showed 89%). I haven't gone WOT to check it out...doubt an extra 3% on the pedal sensor will make any difference.

Would have taken pictures, but the ONLY thing different between the two was the number written on label. Otherwise, it's identical.
