Quick Q on removing stereo

I don't have my service manual at home right now, so I have a quick Q on how to remove the dash to get to the stereo. I got the cover for the sifter pried up, and i know I have to unscrew the ash tray.
I was wondering how you remove the piece with the clock and vents on top of the climate control. I forget where you're supposed to pry it...

thanks

I guess I forgot more than I thought I did...

I got the top piece off, but I can only find one screw to remove for the ashtray. I took that one out but it still seems stuck. Isn't there more than one screw I'm supposed to remove?

No, there is only one screw for the ashtray, once you remove it pull the ashtray toward the drivers side of the car and it will pop out.

After taking it off 3 times in the past few months to install my in-dash changer, I think I know what you're talking about!!!

The ashtray is secured by a screw on the left, and a metal clip on the right. What I did was, I just took the screw out & yanked it straight out (not at an angle). I thought I'd break something, but after 3 times, it's still fine. The metal clip might fall off, so you'll have to get a flashlight and look around for it. Remember to put the clip back before you put the ashtray in.

The metal clip is a 'sleeve-type' clip that lets you push the ashtray in easily, but resists when you try to pull it out. Kinda like a j-clip! Hope it helps

The link is good....just to add though...
I had trouble removing the ashtray. The clips are tight and fly off easily if you pull hard. I would advise you to slip a hand back there if you can to catch those flying clips.

Also for the air vents you have to pull DOWN fairly firmly. The rest was a piece of cake.

Last thing is to take note of the different screws for the stereo compared to the AC/heating screws and pocket. One set are fine the other set are coarse.

Thanks for the help guys..got everything out fine. Ashtray took a bit of pulling though. Eventually when it came out, the metal clips stayed right in the dashboard where they're supposed to be when the ashtray is in.
