Got around to my maxima again. Didn't pass smog last year because my no(ppm) was at 868 when it was suppose to be under 507. So i checked the codes and it said egrc selinoid and rear o2 sensor. first I Fixed the broken flex pipe by welding a new one on and that took care of the rear o2 sensor code then I Bought the egrc valve for code 1005 and that cleared that code. Got back from smog and now I'm at 572. I decreased by 300. I have no check engine light on and the car runs and idles nice. Anyone have any suggestions. I'm 65 points away from passing. Car has 225,000 original miles.

 

no other codes being thrown? everything is stock? original 225k miles on the car and etc.?

Also GOOGLE says that high NO(ppm) is caused by high cylinder temps or combustion hot spots.

Which the cause can be sitting in traffic for that long or the buildup of carbon in your motor....

 

Have you checked the main cat and pre cats, once on my 02 and 03, my main cat had nothing in it just like a Test Pipe, i would check that out since its more easier than the pre cats....GL..what part of Cali.....

 

You guys read my mind, I seafoamed it yesterday through the intake got no white smoke like I did with my Mitsubishi. Sacramento Cali. Thanks for the help. I don't know if I should replace o2 sensors , I don't have a code for them so I'm up against the wall.

The new seafoam bottles have a hose that let's you slide it in before the throttle body plate.

 

This. Check you cooling system, drain your coolant and run 70/40 mix with a new tstat. Are you certain the EGR works in every aspect? Clear passages, good solenoid and valve? EGR reintroduces burned (inert) combustion gasses into the cylinders to lower temps.

best way to seafoam is through the brake booster hose. id drop a full bottle in the gas tank too. or even a bottle fo bg 44k.

 

I hate the EGR system with a passion. There are like 50 solenoids and valves and its a pain to track down a problem.

easy way to pass E test is to run GT race fuel 104 octane just get a 1/4 tank if your on empty that is

Back when we used to have emissions here in Florida, a friend of mine showed me this neat trick to pass the sniffer test. He would run his tank close to empty, and then add a couple of gallons of denatured alcohol, and then go and get tested. Passed with flying colors every time.

Now, all you have to do is go to your closest E85 pump and do the same thing, since it's 85% ethanol. Run your tank as empty as you feel comfortable with, and then put enough E85 in your tank to give you a 1/4 tank. Then go get your sniff test done. Report back to us your new sniffer reading after you pass.

After you go and do your sniff test, go to a gas station and fill your tank (with premium, preferrably Shell V-Power) to dilute the E85 since it's not good for non flex-fuel cars to use it.

 

Three years ago I failed emissions with all OEM exhaust. After throwing in a few gallons of high ethanol gas I kept her running in the lot for ~30min while I waited for inspection and it worked.
