Autozone Axle

Hi,I removed my passenger side axle today. I Tryed to install an axle I bought from autozone it would not fit. Got the 3 bolts tighten to the axle and bracket, but it was not flush with the tranny. The seal is exposed and if I push the cap down to cover the seal it is not snug, you can spin it with your finger. I disconnected the strut from the knuckle. I followed haynes manual. I then tryed to see if I can place it through the hub it would not. The axle looked longer and it was. I then put the original one back in. Did anyone else have this problem? Do I have to remove the ball joints for an autozone axle? I hope someone can help.

Sounds like you did everything correctly. You should not need to touch the ball joint. Take it back and try another one or buy from another store.

Re-maned or aftermarket axles can be hit or miss from any supplier.

BTW, the passenger side axle is the same for all 95-03 Maximas, 96-04 I30/I35. If they don't have another of the same part number in stock check for a different year.

I jus did on my 00 yesterday and used autozone. when I took it out of the box, they look and measured the same as the OEM ones. I didn't even look at the how flush the end of the shaft was but I figure if it was measured the same, it should be OK then. I even took the OEM flange and transfered it to the autozone ones. so far I'm not spewing oil.....

Driveaxle splines were longer. It was a remanufactored axle. Could not get it to go in the hub. Had at least and inch gap at the tranny end. The rubber seal was exposed. The old one went right into the hub with just the strut disconnect.
