1996 Nissan Maxima making a loud sound

Hello, recently my 96 Maxima started making a very loud sound when I drive it. The sound is only present when I drive up to decent speed(ie 20 mph) and if I turn the wheel to the left, the noise goes away.

Has anyone had this problem? I have changed the tires and rims, one rear wheel bearing, and brake pads and yet it persists.

Thanks in advance

We're gonna need more info bud. What kinda of noise is it? Is it a clunk, click, etc? It ALWAYS makes the noise when you turn the wheel to the left?

Sounds like a front wheel bearing to me since it goes away when you turn. but yeah, like styliztik says, gonna need more info.

Is the noise a clunk, click, hum, growl??

The noise goes away when you turn on the road to the left.

The best way to describe the sound would be that of a plane taking off. Obviously no where near as loud but it is very comparable

You should replace both the front wheel bearings and report back.

I recommend these wheel bearings.

Good luck.

Yeah. Wheel bearings or brakes. I'm leaning towards wheel bearings. But wouldn't wheel bearings always make a noise whether he's turning or not?

^^^No. They will quiet down when going around a corner or whatever. I can't remember exactly but i think if you turn left and it stops, It's the right side that's bad. I think it has to do with the pressure of the car being transferred to the bad wheel bearing thus quieting it down when turning.

Op, jack up the car and put your hands at 12 and 6 o'clock. Now shake the wheel front to back and check for any play. If there is play, It's your wheel bearing.

Check brake pad/calipers. I've had a friend with a similar problem but wasn't making that sound. I would check anyways.

And thanks for confirming that 2bros

UPDATE:
I did as you both said, and I found nothing that would seem like the culprit in plain sight

just ran into this on my 97...check the rear hubs as well by doing the 12 and 6 o clock method 2brosgixxer was talking about.

Oddly enough i describe my noise as a plane taking off haha. To sum it up, i thought it was my front wheel bearing(s) at first, until the noise got louder, then i could notice it from behind (especially with gutted trunk). So i jacked it up, and sure enough...my passenger side rear wheel has a lot of play.

Sorry if this isn't any help, just my experience!
