Looking for How-To on the Fog Light re-wire to the Parking Lights - 2012 SV
Hi,
Sorry, but I have searched and searched and haven't found a definitive answer...
Is there a how-to available anywhere for the fog light re-wire to attach them to the parking lights on a 7th gen., so that they can be turned on without the low beams being on as well? I have found a few previous model how to's, and I have seen pics on here of some 7th gens with this mod, but I can't seem to find detailed instructions on how it was done.
Also, any recommendations on the best bright white (not blue) fog lights without doing a hid/ballast kit? Silverstar Ultra? Phillips Crystal? Nokya Arctic White? Is one of those better than the others?
Pics would be fantastic.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies!!

I am looking for an answer myself, but from what I remember having read in the factory service manual, the fogs work like this:
If the headlights switch is in the:
Most people have either:
The factory manual states there is a relay for the fogs. I have not started to take a part my car to look for it. Where is it so I can get to it quickly and start some testing? My methodology is to stay as stock as possible, with out the use of third party switches, relays, etc etc. I like it cleaner this way.
If the headlights switch is in the:
- "Off" position: The BCM does not even bother to check the fog light switch position.
- "Auto", "Parking Lights", "On" position: The BCM sends a signal to the IPDM or whatever it was called in the engine bay where it activates a relay. Therefore, when the headlights are on, the fogs come on, and when the headlights are off, fog lights are off.
- I am still unsure how the fogs turn off when the high beams come on. I assume it is an BCM or IPDM thingy function.
Side note, I come from a 1999 Maxima. Search for a write up I did to see how it works, and how it was slightly easier in the 1999.

Most people have either:
- Wired their own relay that I assume comes directly from the battery (through a fuse of course) to the fogs, with the parking lights as a switch.
- As I can imagine, this loses the independent control of the fogs.
- Alternatively, you can wire them to a separate switch you can mount somewhere in the car, or a wireless remote.
- One person has discovered that if you have regular Halogen bulbs (I am not sure for HID owners), you can swap the low lights and fog lights connections, as they are both the same. This will, simply swap what bulbs get turned on via the stalk, and the harness is long enough to go to either one.
