Servicing VG30E Valve Springs While In The Vehicle

Has anyone successfully disassembled their VG30E valve springs, without removing the cylinder head from the engine, and while still attached to the engine?

This would save having to touch the timing belt. I need to replace the valve stem seals, and i've heard there is some tool on the GMs that allow you to do it while in the chassis.

I would go about it the right way instead of trying the short cut method. Too stressful and a higher risk for me.

It can be done....You'll need to pressurize the cylinder with compressed air or another method is to insert a nylon rope inside the cylinder so it lays on top of the piston and when you bring this up to TDC the rope should set against the valves holding them from falling down.....just remember to leave some rope hanging out or tied to something big and don't forget to take it out b4 cranking the engine! Good luck!

Not worried about the valve dropping, i'm wondering how you get the springs to compress down. The springs are sort of recessed in the VG30E. Is there some tool that attaches to the rocker arm bolt holes or the rocker shaft if one removes the arms?

Not replacing the springs, I need to replace the valve stem seals, which merits removing the springs.

There's a tool for that....http://www.mandrel-bends.com/catalog...FZGiPAodpHsA5Q

Once you get the spring off you can use diagonal pliers to remove the seals
