High Idle, P0505

Hi,

Recent bought a 1996 SE 5 speed. My idle is high 1100 rpms (in neutral) and I am getting a P0505 and a knock sensor code. The idle is solid, and not erratic.

I know the previous owner replaced the MAF 5,000 miles ago.

I tried unplugging the TPS and tightening the IAC idle screw down, but 1100 is as low as it will go.

I also tested the IAC with an ohmmeter and it tested good at 30-31 ohm across the pairs. Hope this isn't a fried ECM.

What should my next route be? Is there any way to diagnose a bad ECM?

Thanks in advance. I am really impressed by this Maxima so far (beside this little problem)

Graham

if thats all your getting next thing i would check is some vacum hoses have u checked any of those and make sure none are crack or off...if u want to try that and dont see any try some wd-40 or pb blaster and spray around any vacum lines..if there is a leak or crack `it will idle up faster do to the flammable liquids this is what i do on my car and others and works and use this method for leaky intakes

Does the IACV look like it has been changed? The P0505 code is for the IACV. If the previous owner had a problem and replaced it, you could be stuck with a bad ECU. Other than than remove the ECU and open it up, I don't know how to test it.
