Reverse lights stopped working. I am worried

Is this a transmission problem? Its a 5 speed and the rear lights just don't come on anymore when I put it in reverse, I worry cause not only is it dangerous cause people are dumb and never are cautious around cars unless they see reverse lights but my next inspection they won't be able to get them to light up.

Also bulbs work fine. I am wondering it there is a switch or a bad switch that is causing it. but I would think that is inside the tranni or next to some shift link.

Is there a way to fix it?

You check your fuse? The backup switch is externally mounted on the tranny maybe a solder joint broke....Have you done any work in that area lately?

Yes there's a switch, it's on the transmission. Check it with an ohm meter, replace if that's indeed the issue.

yeah fuses are fine, It actually sometimes, when you play with it goes on reverse but pretty rare as of late. Does the neutral safety switch also function as a reverse switch?

Well I replace balljoints and breaks back in august but thats about it. I noticed the N safety switch was all gooed up from either tranni oil or cv joints. These are my 4th pair of Cv joints that ripped... ugh. This time they ripped around the clamp and not the concave parts of the boots.

Maybe the CV boot hit it and broke a solder joint!

The neutral and backup light switches are built into one unit. You can check the switch for continuity and see if it is bad or if you have a wiring problem.
