Do any of you remember the turbos in the passenger seat?

That was me. It was a fun/funny project that I worked on while driving the VW GTI as a daily. Total cost was under 1k. The transmission was leaking, and the car had 160k on the clock. Figured I would have some fun with it before I got rid of it.
It ran for a few months before I decided to go for more.
It was significantly faster that I had expected, running 8psi of boost.
The car was loud as well. 4' of exhaust pipe to the turbos, and 2' of exhaust pipe out the side.

I was running Mustang wheels. 17x8 et25. I had 255/40/17 bfg tires. Needed to roll the rear fenders a little to make the back not rub on bumps.

Then I got a bad fuel injector... I had purchased some used (refurbished) 300zxTT injectors from Japan. One was stuck open.

So I cleaned it up, and said good by...

Then I drove this:

And then I drove this:

And now I drive a maxima once again.

That's my story.

It wasn't bad, but I never drove it for long periods of time.
I drove it mostly to car meets to get the WTF faces from people.
The best looks were when I had a milk crate for the driver's seat.

it was lol and a disgrace to the community at the same time.

Not that much work. I had most of that stuff just laying around.
I also taught metal shop at a college at that point, so tools and equipment were readily available.
I had autoXed the car solidly for 4 years, rallyXed it for a year, and thuroughly beat the car.
This was they big toy car while I had a nice car to drive.

Though I'm sure you will all think what you want, this was done for the hell of it and for the funny.

Bored, and just because.
Really just to see how simple of a system I could make to turbo the maxima.
I didn't want to do the standard intake location, as that would have been boring.
The only parts that were expensive were the braided stainless lines at about $200.
I already had the turbos, gauges, and piping.

Props for creativity, but those minty fog lamps are a disgrace to destroy. I hope to have that kind of job and free time though, my mopeds would all have twin turbos!

At that point in time, I was a mechanic 30 hours a week, and teaching metal shop at a university about 20 hours a week.

I still regret trashing the body. I know there were a lot of good parts on it.

Though the door windows had all been glued up, the inner door skins cut out, and window parts removed.
I had also cut out the entire spare tire tub and replaced it with a thin piece of metal.

This was all done back when I was rallyXing it.

i used to know a guy that would buy the most random cars like old rusty Preludes and he would turbo them and run them just to see the look on peoples faces. that and he had a R32 GTR he built. some people get kicks out of it, i cant go through all that labour personally without having something to keep in the end

I still have the instrument cluster, the exhaust outlet from the door, the ignition key, and the license plate. Momentos from the project.

I would have done more, but the stereo business I was doing on the side was actually making money, instead of my wasting it on the car ideas.

I did all the bending, but the exhaust shop wouldn't let me use their welder.
