2002-2003 HIDs still being stolen?

Hello. I'm doing some searching around for my first car and I currently have my eyes on a 2003 Maxima. I was planning on going to look at one this weekend and possibly buy it, until I did some research and found about the HID theft on these years. I only saw articles and posts from about 6-9 years ago in 2003-2006, but not anything recent. I was just wondering, are thieves still stealing the HIDs out of the 2002-2003 Maximas? I live in Southern NJ and I know that I'm in one of the affected areas. If HID theft is still a problem, I will not be buying this car after all. I know there are deterrents such as Data Dots, special bolts, alarms, etc. but all of this seems like such a hassle and a huge expense. It seems easier to just convert to the 2000-2001 headlights if i buy the car. If I convert, is it difficult? Expensive? Do they fit the 2002-2003 Maximas, or are they a bit smaller?

Advice? Opinions? Thanks.

Aftermarket HID's have become so cheap that theft of the factory systems has become a non-issue. I haven't heard of a single case in many years.

You're fine. HID kits are so cheap that it isn't worth the risk of going to jail for stealing the headlights.

yeah it is outdated.
this was when approximately 1 in every 10 cars had factory HIDs and the Max was one of them at the time.
This is going back 10 years. so you will be fine!

my friends hids wore stolen form his 5.5 gen 5 years ago, he had the headlights replaced by insurance company. He has not had a single incident after that, no one even attempts to, and he lives in a bad neighborhood. Anyways, that was so 5 years ago. You'll be fine.

Stealing HIDs is a waste of time, steal the entire car.
