Happy New Year.

So I recently started working on customizing some 97-99 tail lights..I used the oven method and it worked perfectly. The first three lights separated no problems but I used a little too much arm strength on the last corner light and cracked off a small piece.



Do you have any suggestions on how to best bond the two pieces together? And why do you think that would work best? I know answers can range from silicone to krazy glue etc. but I rather not guess as to what would be the strongest and most applicable bond here.

I would use a super glue type of product. There are some that are intended for plastics and they kind of melt into the plastic so that the pieces have been "welded" or melted together. Silicone wouldn't do this, but would probably be fine as there isn't any stress on the lens.

I would not use super glue, you'll get a hazy look around the repair most likely. 5 min epoxy is alot better. I broke a corner off my stock ones doing the same thing and fixed it with epoxy. Let it set up and sand it down progressing to higher grits of sandpaper. I ended up lightly nightshading my tail lights when I was done and you can't tell the corner was ever broken

 

ive had super glue on mine for over 7 years, no one can tell. just dont let any of the glue get to the front

Any type of glue glue similar to Crazy glue will work. Those corner areas are really delicate thats why i said take your time when prying them apart once hot enough. Live and learn man.. next time you take tails apart Im sure will be flawless.

 

Just use a knife to help it apart? It worked for me. And as far as the broken corner goes, I would go with the gorilla glue or maybe some kind of cement glue or model car glue (in very small amounts) and then wet sand and polish. All very carefully of course. for the best results

OK thanks for the feedback everyone, I will visit my local hardware stores today and try to find the cheapest among clear plastic epoxy, clear gorilla glue, and such. Will post some pics so you guys can see once I have glued it back together and completed phase 2.
