We all know that the recommended fuel for our cars is Premium. Does anyone here actually buy Premium? And if so, how often? Does it really make a difference in performance?

 

i use only premium in my 03 6 spd maxima never put regular in once. i had a 00 when i was 17 and i put in regular once and it sucked made a huge diff. my bro with a 05 altima se-r puts regular and he says it runs fine. but im not going to fool around with saving 5 bucks or so give or take cause gas is expensive but is cheap compared to fuel systems and engines. also i think your question should of been "Does anyone here actually buy regular?" cause i believe most put premium

 

Our VQ30DE's have a 10:1 compression ratio (i believe) and a high compression engine requires a high octane fuel. Using regular (unleaded) fuel can cause pre detonation, which is very bad for your engine, and can possibly harm it.

Use premium and enjoy the extra power, and sleep easy knowing your engine isn't pre detonating.

 

I put in 87 once, won't ever do it again. People that don't realize the performance difference, their knock sensor was dead anyway.

 

If you drive aggresively or frequently in heavy stop and go traffic then it will make a difference, but when you're cruising down the highway, for example, I doubt you lose anything with regular unleaded.
