Looking to buy a maxima again. What would you offer for this? Couple questions also

Been a while since i've been on here. Used to own an auto 2000 maxima gxe. I have a 93 acura legend 6spd right now that's sliwly having issues so looking for a second car. I'm interested in this(or any other 6spd) 2002 maxima se 6spd
http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/3965399657.html

I'm going to go look at it Saturday morning. The owner has told me that it burns a quart or so every couple thousand miles, but there isn't any blue smoke or residue on the muffler. I realize this is a common problem, buy is it a serious problem for the engine or just a problem on the cost of oul to your wallet? Not sure if i should stay away bc of this?

Clutch has never been replaced and it's at 150k and i was wondering about how much parts/labor would cost typically cost? I could use this to negotiate him down. He is already above kbb likely bc people on craigslist expect to negotiate way lower

STL area, eh?

It could be valve stem seals or it could be the rings if the cats trashed it. A compression test is necessary to determine which. And they need gutted (or headers), there's no avoiding that. After gutting clogged ones that just started to disintegrate, I vote headers LOL. That catalyst material is like concrete! You won't see any smoke unless the motor is practically gone/drinking oil. The cats hide the oil consumption well.

It looks really clean, but personally I'd wait to find a HLSD (so titanium edition most likely).

I don't know what these jackals charge for clutches. But if I was gonna do that and headers, I would just drop the motor and tranny, install the parts and reassemble. No time wasted and tons of frustration getting to studs or removing the tranny while the engine is in.

How much are headers and new cat? I put headers on my acura cl type s and it was like a whole new car compared to factory. Literally over 20hp on the dyno

One of my buddys brothers owns a performance shop amd could hook me up with labor

You got a shop that will hook you up, so that's good. You have to decide on the oil burning issue. Many 5.5 gens do and owners still drive them. Just check the oil and add when necessary.

HLSD means much better traction. Very nice to have on a fwd car with the torque our cars put down. I have been burning oil for years (about 1 quart every 1,500 miles), granted I use full synthetic 5w-30 so I'm sure the viscosity is causing more to be lost. I do have headers now so I am not worried about it and my engine runs flawlessly. Idles at 650 and revs all the out with no smoke.

I agree. Go with the HLSD. I had an 01 Anniversary with the VLSD, and even that made a huge difference in driveability. So much so that I took a cut in power to get the AE instead of an open-diff 2002 for slightly more. Find one with the HLSD.
