Any issues with low profile (40/45 series) tires on 7th Gen

I'm considering the purchase of a 7th gen, possibly sport package. I'm wondering if anybody has had any issues with the series 40 or 45 tires that are OEM on these. Specifically with potholes in the winter. I do not want to purchase if it means I'm having to replace tires because of a blowout or repairing /replacing a bent rim. I am generally a cautious driver and have never had any problems with the "normal" tires on my 98SE.

You can buy a 5 year full tire and wheel warranty for about $250 on a new Max, not sure how (or if) it works on a used car

FWIW I believe 40 referrers to the size ratio of the sidewall compared to the tread portion and not it's height in mm's. Thanks anyways.

I realize that for those of you in the warmer climates this is probably not much of an issue.

I also realize 40 or 45 is not very low profile compared to a lot of the tires out there but I don't want to be constantly dodging potholes.

Thanks but I rather avoid any issues even if they are covered by warranty. I am also considering the G37 and noticed the sidewalls are a 55 aspect ratio as standard. Probably to give the car a less harsh ride.

You can sale the 19's to get the thicker tires or just get a non-sport package SV. If you search the threads you'll see that some people have had bent rims with the 19's. So yea your more likely to encounter that. I haven't heard any complaints from people w the 18's.

18 and 19 inch rims bend fairly easy, better safe than sorry.

I had 17 inch wheels repaired a few times and they always bent again in the same spot as it was weaker. The repair place was full of wheels from all sorts of cars.

$250 for a 5 year zero deductible REPLACEMENT ( not fix) tire and wheel warranty was a smart move IMO as I live between CT and MN

The Infiniti tires that are 55's are 17 inch, mine has 225/50R18 and the car rides a bit harsher than my Max which also had 18's, not sure if AWD make a difference.

I run 16 inch Blizzaks in the Winter

Thanks, The difference between the 18's and 19's seems very small. I would not expect that to make much difference. I will probably stay away from the Maxima sport pkg with the 19" tires. I searched "low profile" without many hits. I will try "bent rims".

I understand winter tires are the way to go, especially if you are driving in rural areas. I would like to keep things simple and stick to one tire/wheel. I have never had any issues with the 16" 55's I have on my 98SE and I have hit some large potholes over the years.

Thanks for the info.

16 inch wheels are very hard to bend. The last 16 inch wheels I had were on a 92 Lincoln LSC a long time ago, the sidewall was huge compared to 18 and 19 inch wheels thus providing more protection for the wheel

I had 225/45/17 on my last Infiniti and bent 3 wheels over 5 years. , I'm a careful driver, you can't see potholes very well at night and in MN even a 1/2 of snow stays on the roads for weeks sometimes.

I have yet to bend an 18 inch wheel but if I do having the warranty is nice

Ah your right, my bad, brain fart!! I was thinking tire width with mm! But yes none the less, I've had no issues with the 40 profile and pot holes!!
