Block off plates are they worth it

I know NWP did a dyno run using our generation 3.5 and the 2 bop 's. They said and showed it lost too much HP for the slight gain in upper rpms to be beneficial. BUT the car being dynoed was an older Maxima with the 7th gen engine AND a stick shift.

So my thinking is because of the CVT trans always being at least 5000 rpm or higher when floored the BOP would be beneficial for us 7th gen guys. Because it's at the upper end of the curve the whole time it's floored. So it would be making more power.

What do you guys think?

I personally don't think it's worth it, you'll lose about 15 ft. Lbs. of torque for a gain of 1 hp in the upper RPM's! Get the intake manifold spacers! That you'll notice!!

Doesn't work well on the new Maximas from what I've read off his site.

I answered my own question with a Google search. This is the dyno before and after from NWP. Darn...

its not worth it honestly. i've tried it and still have it in a box did not like the set up at all don't get me wrong top end speed was nice but however that low end torque was horrible. i kept half of the kit install though just the main egr valve. Just like the 6thgen manifold set up. The other butterfly egr is back in. The one closer to the throttle body of course. however i do love that set up i think it works. but thats may be the pants to the seat theory. Good luck i've even take my intake off and put the stock box back in so just the pulley and spacer kit and half of the Bop kit lol.

So you're using half of the kit. Hmm....

Yes I am my low end torque is still there but if I put the full kit in I loose it no doubt. If ur looking for the top end speed it's nice but I'm still getting that with half of the kit

Maybe that's the key. Only use the normal older model plate on the passenger side. I know that one made a difference on my old Altima SE-R.

So you have both plates now? Let us know.

I was reading this article. m.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=640087&styleid=5
And found that when add both BOP you loose power on the bottom. When I removed the bigger of the two (passenger side) VIAS setup for BOP I did loose more power however. The setup with both is not worth it. Unlike Tramel I have been running the smaller BOP instead of the bigger one and I have gained more power with less loss at the bottoms as he also stated. That's just my experience, just like the linked article has also stated.

So you only have the drivers side block off plate installed?

Anyone have a diagram of what the intake looks like inside. I'd like to see it as I can then make a better assumption of what would flow more air.

"The bop plates remove the restrictive V.I.A.S valves the block airflow into the lower collectors. By removing them you allow your manifold to become a free flowing system. The gains are very small ( 6hp with 4 in tq ) but are there." - Cory from CXJ

Okay? these were not dyno tested, they were just calculated gains. When NWP actually tested it the tests showed a different result. That is why this mod highly controversial.

Someone needs to find a diagram of what the intake looks like on the inside and we should get a better idea of what would flow the best.

Yes that would be very good. I just figured that air would flow better and smoother from the drivers side throttle body to the passenger side VIAS instead of the drivers side throttle body to the drivers side opening so when you gunned it the passenger side VIAS would have no problem opening the butterfly-like VIAS inside. The drivers side VIAS "seemed" to get the least of the air flow anyways considering it's location so I figured that would be the one if any to remove. This is this speculation from my experience however.

I hate to dig up a old tred. But my vacuum selonid was leeking and the timing was off when it would close so I put 1/8 plugs on it and the vias on the the pass side. I made block off plates and did not put them on cuz the vias is open it closes when u hit 3800 or so so now mine stays open and lookin in the manifold it has a separate chamber on the top. That connected by the both vias so if the 1 on pass side is open well for $2.00 bucks u give it a try and say f--k bop. U will feel it and no low end loss just my experience. I had loss of power and my car was idling funny prob lean it times took off UIM replaced plugs IM gasket and looked in manifold to figure out how it worked. Pulled vias and traced for plates. Put back together found leek caped vac lines and now. Well u give it a try. Let me know if it dose the same for u. This was on my 09 Altima coupe 6speed I know not a max same set up.
