Clip on weights on the inside of the wheel and stick on weights, hidden just inside the rim for the outside area. Keeps the wheels nice and clean looking. I even have my OEM rims balanced that way. A good tire guy should balance alloys this way.(IMHO) I've never had a shimmy or balancing problem with weights being applied this way. Who would want an ugly rim weight stuck to the side of your expensive alloys anyhow?

i guess then you won't have a 6" long string of tape weights
on the inside of the spokes.
what you are really saying is that tape weights which are nearer to the centerline of the wheel make a difference to the balancing.

the clip on is more "efficent" because it's at the very edge of the rim
the stick on is easier on the clear coat and does not gouge the alum wheel but i believe you have to add slight more to compensate the weight being behind the the rim.
if you rim is so out of balance that you can't balance the wheel w/ stick on or clip on weight then i would consider getting another rim.
