Electronic Motor Mounts

Searching through the forum, I noticed that the electronic motor mounts in the front and rear can leak and fry the computer unit if they rupture. I want to unplug mine and it looks like you have to remove the air intake unit to get to the plugs. I see the wires coming out of the mounts but then they disappear up under the air filter assembly. Is there any problem in just cutting the wires and taping off the ends of them? Eventually when they leak, I will replace them with the MT mounts.

You're thinking of 5th gen having the short out problem, not 4th gen.

Cool. So then I don't have to worry about the computer frying. Thanks for the answer. They aren't leaking or making noises yet, so I am good so far.

You're welcome.

When they do get old and you want to replace them, a good upgrade is energy suspension.
You will need non-electric/manual mounts for those though, but you can deal with that when the time comes.

I love this car. I bought it 3 years ago. It threw the knock sensor code & an O2 sensor code. The O2 code was from the tune up guy only hand tightening the spark plugs. When I torqued them to specs, the code went way. The knock sensor had a cracked housing, so I replaced it. Other than that, I 've only had to replace an alternator because the bearings went out at 129K on the clock. This car is great except for the ugly gold color, but I can live with that. Thanks for the help.

I believe its only the front engine mount that is electric. The rear mount is not...and I do agree that champagne is not my favorite color in this car...

Will it make any difference if you swap the electric mounts for the non electric automatic mounts. Must do mine asap, car drives like crap!

No difference except maybe a slight vibration in the wheel at idle.
Hardly noticeable.

+1 Hardly noticeable. Also, you can unplug the current electric mount and drive it around so see if you can feel any difference.
