Prepping my 97 for a de-k motor

I have a de-k motor from an previous car that had the swap but i want to start the swap from scratch so i know exactly what needs to be done. I believe the motor i have is good but how can i guarantee its ready. I already have a vafc2, aftermarket fuel pump, what else do i need for everything to be right

This is the perfect opportunity to replace any seals that might be a problem to fix once the engine is in the car. Rear main seal, valve cover, etc. Might as well do sthe spark plugs, anything you can think of that might be PITA in the future.

Don't touch the rear main unless it's for sure leaking.
Half moon seals, yes; RMS hardly ever.
Shout out to Schmelly.

Fakie, I defer to your expertise. I have read about the half moon seals. I should remember that should i need to replace my clutch someday. I normally like to replace the RMS at that point, just because it is good preventative maintenence. It appears that I should replace the half moon seals as well on the Max when the time comes.

You can't properly do the rear main without dropping the upper oil pan anyways.

If you plan on installing headers do them now before the engine goes in.
