WRX Shift ****

Hey all, it's been a while since I've posted here but I wanted to share my newest mod on my 97 Max. My old shift *** (misspelled to avoid censorship; lets see if it worked) was pretty well worn out and no longer had even the H pattern visible. I decided to go to eBay after checking the classifieds here and found a bunch of Evo ***** with the same threading, but ultimately went with a WRX **** with a 12x1.25mm spacing. In order to fill in the 2mm difference I wrapped electric tape around the threads and then wound the **** on until it had a firm hold. The WRX **** also has a plastic ring around the base which I assume is for reverse lockout but makes for a perfect zip tie holder to wrap the boot up around for extra flushness. Here are some photos to show the results. I'm super happy with it and the WRX shift ***** can be had for ~$30. The Max just got a small bump into the 21st century interior wise.

Very clean. I love repurposing factory shift *****. That looks excellent. Fine work.

that's pretty neat. I did the after market thing and got a black cue ball from American shifters.com, and the adapters so it would fit proper(no tape lol). the boot doesn't cover all the way up to the top but that's fine.

I actually got some adapters from 9k racing but they had a lip at the base that the **** wouldn't fit over so maybe I'll grind it off one day and make it more professional.

Also the **** is a bit heavier than stock so the weight makes it easier to row. 2nd gear feels much smoother than it did before. Used to be pretty notchy.

Just wanted to say that this is still a great upgrade for those who want to replace your OEM shift **** with something that looks stock. Picked this up for $40 on ebay.
