New to here need some buying advice

Okay so I just joined this forum a couple days ago and that's because I'm ready to buy a maxima. Now what I need help on is that I found a 2009 Nissan Maxima SV with sport package and Tech package for 14,000 grand but it also has 124,000 miles on it so in short I'm asking should I get it? Or should I find another maxima with less miles? Some advice would help from you guys ! Thanks !

I would try to find one with lower miles if it were me, also do some research and see what something of that year/mileage should be going for. I would get a carfax to be safe unless its like a certified preowned deal. KBB might be able to help you if you head to their website. Good luck!

It has a car fax and a auto check everything checks out, the car is in pristine condition the only thing I'm weary about is the mileage, I'm 19 and I can afford something up to 17 thousand but every other maxima I've seen is the S model with around 70 or 80 thousand miles on them so this one caught my attention. I'm going to test drive it tomorrow and if I like it more than likely I'll take it but I just wanted to hear some of the opinions from the people here because they probably know more than me lol

With the 2009 being the first year of the generation, there are bound to be some issues. Hopefully someone may provide more input, but I have listed some prominent ones that I have seen around the forum since buying my '14 Max and joining the forum.

I would personally avoid purchasing the first model year for any particular generation car, and also pay attention to some of the posts here to get a feel of what you should be paying; pricing may vary by location obviously, but you can get a very broad estimate.

Nissan extended the CVT warranties of their 2009-2010 models from the original 5 year/60,000 miles to 10 years/120,000 miles. With the 2009 Maxima you are currently looking at, it has surpassed the extended warranty that Nissan put out so if you run into any issues regarding the powertrain, you are SOL. More info here.

Another concern comes with the automatic telescoping wheel with it being stuck or locked. You can read all about it here.

Here's my take, the 2009 might be the best of the 7th gen maximas although some may disagree. With that high mileage as stated above the extended warranty on cvt is passed so repairs could get costly if needed. My opinion keep looking, depending on the state your in you should have no problem finding an s model with low mileage in your price range. Here's an example a year ago this month I bought mine, 2010 with 21k miles, after taxes and such I got it for 19k

Really good info Daaavid. My sister's coworker is buying his daughter a Maxima and I believe it's a 2009 Max with over 100,000 miles. I'll be sure to forward this to her to give to him. I usually do avoid getting the first model year in everything because of the kinks not being fully worked out.

Thanks for the advice! I decided that I'd rather spend a little more right now than a whole lot later, I found a 2011 SV with Tech package for 19 grand and with only 44 thousand miles so I'm going to take a look at that today. Hopefully I'll have my maxima by the end of the day

I agree with what the others are saying. I'd throw in a few more $k's and find a Max with lower mileage. At 124k, you just don't know what the car has been through and it's getting to that point where things in the car might start setting off the check engine light, especially if the car wasn't properly cared for.

My '09 has been a trouble-free cream puff. Yes, the first model year of any new generation is sometimes more trouble-prone than later model years. But not so much with Nissan, because problems of the first model year of a Nissan product are often still there the second, and even third model year. The '09 Maxima is rated as average or above average in reliability by every major rating service.

Having said that, 124K miles is like driving five times around the entire earth. 124K miles may not be a huge number IF YOU had driven them, and taken good care of the car. But we have no way of knowing what that car has been through.

I think you are wise to pay a little more, and get a lot less mileage on the odo.
