Alignment Suspension Tire wear problem
Alignment Suspension Tire wear problem
Hi Guys. I have a 98 I30 with 133K on the clock. Yesterday I got a nail in my tire and went in for a tire repair. The guy tells me my tires are worn out and I need 2 new front tires. They are wearing on the inside and out side at the same time. I keep them inflated at 30-32 PSI. I run stock P205-15's. These are 40,000 mile warranty tires I have only put 5,000 miles on. Even the middle is wearing out almost to the wear bars. So, I want some opinions as to the problem being the suspension or alignment. I can drive the car 100 yards down a straight street and it will not veer to the right or left. It goes straight.... please help.
Thanks, Phil

Just because a car doesn't pull, doesn't mean the alignment is not jacked up or there are no bad parts. Caster can be bang on making the car go straight and the toe or camber can be off, and it only takes about .5 degrees out from what the manufactur specs are to cause tire wear. Take it to a shop you trust with a alignment rack, have them shake the front end down and if it's all tight then check the actual alignment.
The door jamb sticker says 29F & 29R which I always thought was low. I said earlier that my tires only had 5,000 mi on them but I forgot the 1. It's actually 15,000 mi, which is still too low to be wearing out.

To chew up a set of tires in 5K miles you are either doing serious burn outs, aggressive driving or your front end is completely screwed up to the point you'd have a pretty noticeable drive-ability problem.
Or the tires are just junk...
They should be replaced free of charge or at least pro rated 5K miles. Got back to the place you purchased them from. What brand are they?
