Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40
Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40
After some research and finding out that Nissan recommends 5W-40 for their VQ engines in a lot of other countries minus the US I think I will be making the switch!
I'm currently running Ultra 5W-30 and still have about 1500 miles until my next change.
Can't hurt though especially since the VQ engines are hard on oil and actually love heavier oils so we shall see!

Can you provide some logic to explain why you know better than Nissan what oil to use for your car? I hope you live in a hot climate like Florida or Texas
PS Heavier oils increase engine friction and reduce gas mileage. If you want to tinker with oil I would suggest that you go with synthetic as all high performance cars do.

please read my whole post before commenting..I've already been running full synthetic engine oil (Pennzoil Ultra is full synthetic engine oil)
The only difference between 5"Winter"-30 and 5"Winter"-40 is that at operating temperatures the 5W-40 oil will not thin out as much.
In the winter both oils would perform the same and in the summer 5W-40 would actually perform better so it will actually create better protection against engine wear in the long run for the VQ engine.
I mean the V6 Nissan Teana which is considered a Maxima uses the same VQ35DE engine as our 7th Gen Maxima and yet Nissan recommends 5W-40.
So no sir, I do not think I know more than the Nissan engineers, I am simply using the information they have provided to better educate myself as well as others.
BTW I live in Connecticut.

i got lifetime warranty on engine and transmission if I change the oil at the dealer (oil change being free too - i guess they just want to make sure the engine is serviced properly). I hear a lot of 2014 owners got that deal.
I am not sure what you are expecting to achieve. To make the engine run 400 instead of 300K? If you have a 2010 car you will most likely get rid of it long before engine wears out. That is if 2014 has the benefit you suggest.
