They all seem to be price about the same. Depends on what you need the tire to do. What is more important? Dry grip, wet grip, wear, noise? I like my Kumhos in the 235-45-17 but I have not had any of the others tires on your list. But I also knew going in that my tires sucked in the snow(gotta give up something somewhere). But they do have good wet/dry grip and are fairly quiet. That's what I need(especially in the rain NW area).

What I'm looking for:

(1) Traction (acceleration)
(2) Dry Grip (handling)
(3) Wet Grip (hydroplaning/handling)
(4) Snow...who cares?

In the order of importance.

Kumho has that new tire out. Tire-rack talks about it. Looks nice. Cheap too.

Sounds like Kumhos. I'd say jump on Tirerack.com and print out the test results and reiviews.

Also Kumho has another new tire available. I don't know the specs or price.

Sumitomo all the way. I got the HTR+ because someone told me it could snow in Philly. I know they just playin' but I figured I'd get the M+S rated all-season anyway. I have been to Montreal 6 times this winter and everytime it is always snowing when I get there, usually very hard. Makes it a bit tricky on the route 10 but it moves.

Anyway, Sumitomo has excellent, I better not say the T (treadwear) word or I'll get my wrists slapped, but they should last. They're comfortable too IMHO.

Did Kumho get a good write-up somewhere? I can't understand why so many have it. Only Kias have it as OEM standard equipment as far as I know, the Hyundais here all use Michelin. But the Hyundais in Canada have Kumho. I just don't like Korean rubber if I can avoid it. There are also HR rated tires made in China, cheaper, but I don't want them. Sumitomo is Japanese.

Kumho's family of ECSTA (x’ ta) performance tires is designed to enhance every vehicle’s capabilities. The ECSTA MX member of the family elevates Kumho right into our Max Performance tire category which is reserved for the technologically advanced tires that combine highly developed materials with state-of-the-art design and advanced manufacturing methods to provide superior performance.

Designed to deliver Kumho's ultimate level of "dry" road performance while maintaining good wet traction, the ECSTA MX molds an advanced silica tread rubber compound into a directional tread pattern that features massive, stable blocks to increase cornering traction and steering response, while four large circumferential and multiple directionally-aligned lateral grooves resist hydroplaning and enhance wet traction. Internally, the two, wide steel belts are reinforced by spirally-wound nylon cap plies to provide excellent strength, uniform ride quality, and Y-speed rated (186 mph) capability while the sidewalls are tuned to resist lateral deflection to provide handling control and feedback.

Kumho ECSTA MX tires feature black letter styling and are available in 50-, 45-, 40 and 35-series; Y-speed rated sizes for 17" to 20" wheel diameters. Look at ECSTA MX tires if you are looking for dry road Max Performance.

Tire choices

The Sumitomos were my backup choice recently ... and were my backup choice 2 sets of tires ago when I decided on Potenza RE71's. They are good tires, but may be getting a bit dated now. The Kumhos seem to elicit strong reactions. People either love them or hate them. I think they are stickier than my RE730s in the dry (even comparing stock size to the RE730 in 235/45zr17) and the Kumhos surprised me how good they felt in the rain. Definitely a good bang for the buck.

Of the tires you have listed there, Sumitomo HTRZ-II has the best traction both wet and dry, and great price. I would NOT get Dunlop W10s. I know multiple people with them, those tires suck d!ck, they all hate them. I'm getting Sumitomo HTRZ-IIs myself for both street usage and AutoX/Road Course usage.

Seeing that Kumho has a new tire out, I am also going to check that out before making my final decision. I liked my Kumhos ok, but they left me wanting more, they were 80% as sticky as I wanted them.
