New 5 Spd shifter **** Question

Gentlemen, ordered a round Momo shifter **** to replace stock shift ****. Although I haven't received as of yet, wondering if others have replaced theirs as I want to know if the boot is able to be adjusted up in the event I am left with a space between new **** and boot. There appears to be a rubber stop that holds the boot in place today, which may have been glued. Hopefully I can work loose, slide up and re-glue in place. Anybody have experience out there with this mod? Thanks.

theres not much room to work with with the boot... i took the whole panel off to get under the boot, then i just took electrical tape and wound it around and around until it built up some, then put the whole console with the boot back on, and presto, its held up to meet the new ****. but remember, there is not much room to work with.

Magnum, thx for reply...I assume the shifter panel just pops off with screwdriver...however, the rubber piece that keeps boot up...did u in fact slide that up and tape just below it so it would not slide down...is this rubber piece initially glued? Thanks again.

just take a flathead screwdriver and pry up all around the shifter, the whole panel will just pop out. i dont remember there being a rubber ring on mine... im in class now so ill check after 5pm and get back to you. but once you get the panel off test fit the **** without the boot there and mark it off with a pencil or something you can see against the black. i might add that getting the stock shift **** off is a *****. i had to use one of those huge plumbers wrenches because its glued.

I was wondering about that manual shifter...I assumed it was a screw in type (very easy to replace). I sat there for about 5 minutes trying to unscrew that darn thing...could never do it. You say its glued on? How do you put on the new ****?

I don't think that **** will screw all the way down since we have about 2" of thread.
Has anyone sawed the thread in half?
I have to take about an inch off of mine to make the B&M **** to fit.

well its glued on but is still threaded, so when you finally bust it loose, itll just unscrew. and about cutting the shifter, i just picked up the boot to make it fit, no cutting necessary

Dont forget to take out the little screw behind the ashtray. I would not use any tools to remove the shroud...just put your fingers up underneath it at the boot and pull up.

Moboy...forgive me, but you threw me with that last postb...screw..ashtray? Are you saying pull out ashtray and put hand down underneath the shifter boot/tray and pop out that way? Appreciate your clarification.

Under the ash tray there is a little phillips screw that needs to be removed. Once that is removed you can tuck your fingers (from the top of the boot) under the shroud and pry up starting from the rear and work toward the front. It is really easy....I just don't like using any tools to pry on the plastic....you never know how much pressure you are using until it is too late.

Use a tie strap around the shifters shaft under the boot, and slide it up and tighten it where you need it. Works for me.

you dont need to remove the screw from under the ashtray, that has nothing to do with the lower console where the shifter is. use a flathead, and everything just pops right out with no problem, and you wont ruin the plastic. i tore up my stock shift **** too, but you just gotta keep turning that sucker, and after a while, itll just screw right off

what damn thing wont come off? if youre talking about the shift ****, dude just keep turning it. i promise itll come off after a while. to get under the boot, you have to pry up the piece that the shifter sits in. its just the plastic panel thats around the shifter. take a flathead and pry it up (to the right and left of the shifter), and itll just pop right out. of course, you have to have the shift **** off first, but once thats done, you can do whatever you like to the shifter to get the boot to stay up and match the new shifter. seriously this post should not be as long as it is. this isnt a major project, just unscrew and screw the new one on.
