Inject replacement issue. One injector keeps popping out
Inject replacement issue. One injector keeps popping out
Hi all,
I replaced injectors in my 92 maxima gxe.
I tried lifting the fuel rail and moving the key to on position to make sure injectors were seated properly and no leaks.
I find that when I turn the key to on position, fuel rail is pressurized and injector #2 (near cylinder 2) keeps popping out of its socket and fuel gushes out. I have started collecting the fuel in a ziplock bag to ensure fuel doesnt go down into the engine.
I tried 2 different injectors at #2 position and it still does that. The new one and the old bad one to rule out that it is an injector issue.
I am confused. I have tried to seat the injector multiple times and am using factory OEM O-rings. I am an amateur DIYer, so dont have too many tools (fuel gauge etc).
Any ideas much appreciated.

The injector that pops out is 10.9 ohms. It is within specs (10-14 ohm)
Also want to check if the fuel rail pressurization test that I am performing is a valid test i.e. do I need to make some other connections/hoses before I do this test etc ?
Thanks

Does the VG not have a cap that screws on top of each injector with two screws?
If so ,it's not possible for an injector to "pop out" if you have the cap in place. Are you doing this with the cap off?

Also - if this is happening with the cap in place:
At least on the VE, there is a rubber "spacer" that fits between the cap and the injector itself. Did you lose/forget this rubber "spacer" on injector number two? In that case, I suppose it's possible for the cap to be in place and the injector to still pop out of socket by a 1/4" or so.
Is that what is happening?

Thanks for your reply James92SE
No I have not put the caps back on for any of the injectors. I can try putting the caps on and repeat.
I have also been looking at the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) on the rail. One hose to the FPR is coming from the base of the car (near firewall) . The FPR also has another small thin hose hanging off it . I figure it connects to the back of the plenum. Since I have the plenum off, this small hose is not connected anywhere and is just hanging. Does this play any role in this test.

I have a 94 VG30 that I just replaced the injectors on a few minutes ago. Make sure you have the caps on and have replaced the insulators (rubber grommets with metal end) that go under the caps. The fuel system is pressurized, which is why the injectors are popping out without the caps installed. Not an expert on these cars or engines, but it stands to reason any leak test performed without full installation is an improper test.
Hope that helps.
Hope that helps.
Put the injector back in with a bit of motor oil on the Grommet, then screw the cap back on evenly on both screws on both sides. Then your injector will be just fine and not pop back out. that is how you do it!! Dont try to start the car with that cap off.
