2004 maxima transmission problem. shifts, but no forward or reverse all of a sudden

i can move the shifter..the car will rev a little on its own when you put it in gear but nothing happens. This supposedly happened over night(as in it was working fine yesterday).

I can see the linkage moving on top of the tranny.

There are no engine codes on the scanner.

the axles do not appear to be broke, but right inner boot is missing a clamp

Fluid is not new, but does not smell burnt.

Any thoughts before i start digging>? i could not come up with any google search that matched my exact issue

thanks, but i have not been able to find a thread that shares my same problem.

this car does have one broken mount, but the tranny always worked fine.

we had a week of bad winter weather. temps got to -30 below. The car was snowed in for the week. went to get it out when weather cleared and nothing.

When the car is shifted into gear, the car will rev a little (without me pressing the gas) then settle back down. It does this in forward and reverse.

I have the car jacked up right now...wheels do not spin at all. even a slipping tranny should turn a little.

i do not have an engine light. We are going to hook this car up to the fancy reader and see if we can find an issue but it will be a week or two before i can do that

i find it hard to believe this is an internal issue. But i do not know these cars well enough to speculate on other possibilities.
