How would you describe the noise? a clunk? a whir? does it happen with wheel turned all the way while driving, or does it occur when car is sitting still?

Is PS reservoir level still good? just wondering if maybe you have a leak after installation, maybe a loose clamp or pinhole in a hose and getting a whir sound due to low fluid.

Hopefully he is right so you are not spending to much money on something that is still good, replacing the rack is not cheap and then you will need to get an alignment after that.
For your shifting issue, is it a 5sp auto ? Have someone check the mounts first.

mounts are good. i been having this shift issue ever since tranny was ran out of warranty.
some times shift is smooth and shift times is slam. not sure whats the actual problem on this. bad tranny or valve body.

is there any parts associated with power streeing pump which can cause noise when turning all the way left and right.
pls note : noise only comes when i turn the wheel all the way right or left when sitting idle or driving.

Oem

Was the pump you installed OEM?

I've driven other vehicles before where it was just a given that there would be a very noticeable whir of the pump overworking at its max at full left and right trying to push the steering past its physical limit such as my fathers Aerostar. Pump sound would go low and strained and change tones. I think most pumps do it, just some are more obvious in their tones.

Would just wonder if it is a characteristic of the pump if it wasnt OEM.

Just for fun try turning the wheel with the cars engine off all the way left and right. If theres a noise its mechanical, if not, its to do with the pump.

Shifts control by valves and solenoids in the valve body, there are adjustments that can be made on the pressure control solenoids but they're pain in the neck. 90% of the time with these transmission has to do with worn valve bodies however most of the transmission shop won't just swap out the valve body, some do without any warranty. But if u know someone that can do it, it's not that complicate of a job.
