Grinding noise when i accelerate from stop

hi guys,

so i have a 95 maxima, auto, 111,000 miles on it and i was coming off of a red light yesterday and i could hear a grinding sound (more like a grinding and whoosh) from the front right wheel. it happens when the wheel is straight and turned in both directions. Also it only happens when its a complete stop or less then 15 mph and i accelerate moderately hard. any ideas what it could be?

Thanks guys

Either your brakes are toast or the dust shield is rubbing is my guess. Gotta inspect it.

i grabbed them the other day (every time i wash my car) and tried to wiggle it but they seemed solid. i have actually been getting paranoid about that the last year because there rusted pretty bad but never seemed to move so i left them on. i will check tonight and let you know if thats not the problem. i changed the pads last summer and they still got lots of meat on them, my calipers do stick a little all around but i am waiting on a rebuild kit for all 4 to come in the mail (hopefully saturday) to address that problem once and for all.

so i checked it, they all dont touch all the way around. just an update i did it again and it has a MUCH better chance of happening when the wheel is turned but its more like a metal on metal grind but stops as soon as i take my foot off the gas. i hope its not a axle, bearing or cv joint or something like that....

Sounds when accelerating and while the wheel is turned sounds like the axle.

Does the axle click?
Are your axle boots torn?

the axle did click maybe a year ago but suddenly stopped and i havent thought of it since. Also maybe 4 years ago the axle boot did rip and shot grease all over one side of the wheel well. i had it repaired and it has been good ever since. i will check the axle boot tonight when i am home and let you know. i remember 5 years ago when i first got the car i did have to replace one of the axles and then a year later the boot tore on the other one, maybe its time for another axle?

just checked, no tear in the boot. maybe a worn wheel hub? does that happen?

metal on metal grinding sounds like bearing to me.
