After using the Nissan 300zx fuel filter for about 7 months with less than 8000 miles which was original oem from Nissan, I finally went back to the original 4th gen maxima filter and immediately noticed a smoother engine and idle and most importantly the power that was robbed from my car by the z32 filter. A few months back I was judging my decision of putting that . filter in my car and had asked fellow 4th gen owners if there were any downfalls and most of them said no which made decide to stick with it. But as I would take off from a light, I could not feel the power of the car at moments and it would seem like that it's taking off slower than normal and the rpms would slowly increase. I checked everything and all ignition components were new with brand new ngk's, brand new Mitsubishi coils packs and brand new original sensors and even a brand new oem Nissan maf. But today after ordering the original fuel filter I realized my mistake ever putting in that huge humongous z32 filter in my car.

 

I'm going to chalk this one up as a rare occurrence. I've been running the Z32 filter in all my Maximas for many, many years w/o any loss of performance.

Common sense would dictate it's not the filter, but something else. Maybe you unintentionally did something to clog it etc....

$5 says that if you swapped out your new OEM filter for another new Z32 filter right now, you'd feel and tell us the same stuff.

 

now why in the hell would I want destroy my own car to prove anybody wrong for a filter that costs about 30.00. That makes real sense. What does makes sense is you have a major and one of the best automakers Nissan make a big *** fuel filter for a car that is totally different which is the 300zx and then you have a car that is newer than the 300zx and uses a very little filter that is probably 3x smaller than the 300zx. With all this in mind your saying you might not have any issues at all.

 

I have two '97's.
One stock and one modified.
Both using a Z32 filter as a replacement.
Absolutely no issues.

 

Trapped 104 n/a with a Z32 filter, no issues for 6-7 years.

I am saying that Nissan designed a fuel filter for the 4th gen maxima that would work flawlessly with keeping performance and the engine that it is designed for in mind vq30de, while on the other hand the 300zx fuel filter is designed to work with the 300zx and the vg30 engine setup. I am not using a Z32 filter but don't get why it would be an issue if it's just a bigger filter. This isn't swapping ZX engine parts in the VQ (which wouldn't make sense).

Been using Z32 fuel filters in my 4th gen since 06. No issues whatsoever.

 

I've also been using a Z32 filter for some time now. As Nealoc said, it sounds like you may have had other issues going on. The A32 and Z32 fuel filters really have no difference besides the fact that one is bigger, which should allow you to extend your service interval.
