Questions on TPS, bulb, and CVT
Questions on TPS, bulb, and CVT
I have a few questions that have built up over time.
-When I get new tires, the mechanic just need to transfer the pressure sensors from old to new. Does he need to reset something once the new tires have been mounted? I assume yes since the ordering of sensors can be switched.
-What is an affordable brand that can replace the OEM HID bulb? I only know that the type is DS4, but the prices range from $26 to $90. Just curious if there are any difference in quality.
-Are there any CVT fluid brands I can use besides the Nissan one?
-When doing a CVT fluid drain and fill, is it required that the filter also be replaced? If so, what's involved?
-Is the CVT driven by a belt internally? If so, does it need to be replaced eventually?
Thanks

You are not required to change the CVT filter. There are threads on this site that describe how to change it.
The CVT has been described as "a giant rubber band". It is a closed system and is replaced as a unit when it wears out/breaks.
Why chance it by putting in a 3rd party oil. Amsoil makes one and they claim there will not be any warranty issues by using it. There might be others but saving a few bucks and not getting any better product is not worth it. BTW if you do go to a different manufacturer you will have to get rid of all the Nissan oil in the transmission before introducing a different product. 5 quarts on a simple drain and fill, vs. 11 quarts otherwise.

No, nothing needs to be reset as far as I know.

Our bulbs are D2S, not D4S (or DS4 for that matter).

Theretrofitsource.com is a good and reputable site. You can get quality OEM bulbs from Phillips or Osram there. Morimoto, the site's own design/brand is supposedly also really good.
For the no-names and knock offs, you're risking the following list:
-Are there any CVT fluid brands I can use besides the Nissan one?
There are, but personally, I'd stick with Nissan NS-2. It's a pale green color.
-When doing a CVT fluid drain and fill, is it required that the filter also be replaced? If so, what's involved?
I believe there is a filter, but don't quote me. I vaguely remember things about this.
-Is the CVT driven by a belt internally? If so, does it need to be replaced eventually?
There is a steel belt yes, but it's supposed to be the lifetime of your transmission/vehicle. Of course, if you beat on your transmission a lot, as in, flooring the accelerator at every single stop... Well... Might eventually need more than just the belt.

For the no-names and knock offs, you're risking the following list:
- The quality of the salts
Salts are the stuff in side the bulb that colors your light. - The precision of the bulb alignment relative to it's base.
The more misalligned it is, the less light projected out, or projected wrong. - The quality of the metals used for the electrodes.
Lower quality means short bulb life span as the electrodes are worn faster.
