PO600 and getting computer to ready status...
Hi everyone,
I need some help getting my 1996 passed inspection, and the computer is making me crazy! For a long time I have been chasing a PO500 code and PO600 code. The codes don't seem to alter the performance of the car, so I just let the CEL stay on. Well now I need to get the car inspected, and the computer must be in ready status with no codes. I cleared the codes, and the computer leaves three monitors in "un-ready" status. When it does finally reset, I get a PO600. I can't figure that code out. The only thing that does not really work on my car is the odometer. It will only record some of the miles actually driven. Any ideas as to what to look at or check?
Thanks,
Zack

I have nothing on the p0500 or p0600 codes but have something about the emissions.
most states allow "older" vehicles to have some number of systems "not ready" during emissions testing. as long as the cel's off and enough of the emission systems "ready", you can still pass. in Illinois, a pre-1999 car is allowed to have 2 systems show as "not ready" and you can still be ok. look into the regulations in your state and when you have enough systems ready, immediately go for testing before the cel triggers.
