In the "case" is that referring to the entire bell housing? I have a good hunch the mechanic over torqued the pan bolts. Which in turn probably cracked pieces of the bottom of the housing where the pan bolts to. Now you have a leaking mess. I'm speculating this based on what you've described. The likelihood it's leaking anywhere else is slim. If this is the problem your mechanic is trying to cover up his mistake. car-parts.com is a great site to find cheap transmissions is your area. I doubt you'll be able to get just a bell housing. I may be wrong though. More information would be a help. The entire housing is made of cast aluminum and the pan side is pretty brittle. It's very important not to over tighten those pan bolts. I hope this helps if not give some more info.

No problem. That's a stand up guy you have for a mechanic. Anybody can make a mistake but at least he's taking ownership of it and doing the right thing.

5sp swap

Does anyone know if the 96 to 99 5sp manual transmission swap to a 2000 5sp manual with little effort. I aM having a little trouble finding a 2000-01 close by. But there are a few in the 96-99 model range within close proximity.
